Industry Calls For Indefinite Strike

In response to the tragedy, the West Bengal Motion Pictures Artists Forum held an emergency meeting on April 5. The gathering included several key voices from the industry such as Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, Shantilal Mukherjee and Swaroop Biswas.

Following discussions, the forum announced an indefinite strike starting April 7 at 7 am. The decision was unanimous, with members insisting that work will not resume until proper safety protocols are implemented across all shooting locations. The move reflects growing concern over on set safety standards, especially in physically demanding scenes.

Protest March Sees Massive Turnout

The days following Rahul’s death have seen intense public and industry response. On April 5, a protest march was organised in Kolkata, drawing participation from a wide range of artists and filmmakers. The rally began at Technicians’ Studio and moved towards Radha Studio, covering a significant stretch.

Prominent figures like Aparna Sen, Anjan Dutt, Srijit Mukherjee, Kaushik Ganguly, Parambrata Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Riddhi Sen and Kaushik Sen joined the procession. Placards demanding justice for Rahul were held high, reflecting the collective grief and anger of the community.

Priyanka Sarkar Speaks Amid Grief

Actor Priyanka Sarkar, wife of Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, broke her silence with a deeply moving statement in the aftermath of the tragedy. She urged the media and the public to respect her family’s need for space during this painful time, stressing how devastating the loss has been for their child and Rahul’s mother. Her words carried a quiet strength, reminding many that beyond the headlines lies a grieving family trying to cope with an unimaginable void.
