Everyone sings 2 songs. One for audition and one for Theatre Round. You can get any number of mikes but your shown audition song count is the same.
There is no direct to finals in Idol. Those who get a mike in the 1st round do not have to go through a couple of non-televised rounds.
PD's 1st song was with the piano. He did not get a mike as far as I remember.
His Theatre Round got him a mike as did Arunita's SSS.

Incidentally SMP, Ashish and Anjalai got Golden Mikes in both rounds in IL12. Sayli got for 1st round but not for 2nd.

Thanks 👍. I stand corrected.

But my point remains, right? That if anyone deserved a free pass at any stage, it was Arunita. I just couldn't relate with Neha telling her we want to give you a second chance. That day itself I was feeling that here is a potential winner.

Since there is some confusion about the selection process, let me summarize what I know.
1. Shortlisting of x number of contestants is done by TCT (The Content Team)
2. Shortlisted contestants participate in the 1st round audition and usually get to sing a song of their choice (after making sure that Sony has a license to play the song) . They are also graded by TCT and the judges have a bio-data of the singer on the audition sheet.
Unless a contestant is top graded by TCT on the sheet it is possible that a good talent may miss the cut at this stage because here the Judge's choice is final. If an 'A' graded talent slips up, he/she will be kept by the Judge's. (This is unverified internal information from an ex-contestant).
3. Those who get Golden mikes are given a song of TCT's choice and are sent home to perfect the song and return for Theatre Round.
4. Those who don't get a Golden Mike have to stay back for a couple of rounds of audition where one or more of the judges may or may not be present. Those who get shortlisted are given a song and sent home to return for Theatre Round.
5. 30 (usually) contestants are called for the Theatre Round. The Judges select the final lot in this round.

Aru was safe. Anyone on whom the TCT spends money for home video (unless they live in a one horse town that is hard to reach) is usually very safe. Some drama is legit always for Sony and TCT. Also Aru lost SRGMPA Lil Kids despite being the most hyped contestant by any stretch. So, if I am kind, I feel that underplaying her talent may have been a strategy in the initial stages. Whatever it was, it worked in terms of attracting fans to her 😃

They finished the auditions in just 1 week in Superstar Singer 2. Let's see if they will do the same here too.

I feel that is unlikely. They may stretch this for another weekend I feel. But let's see. They need to show us about 20/25 shortlisted singers (based on past experience). So far they have managed half a dozen odd I think
