The current problem with Bollywood films

Was reading Tanul Thakur's review of Brahmastra and found some parts of the review very nicely explaining the current problem with Bollywood films and what's wrong with the producers.

Excerpts from the review:

The Hindu mythology angle looks so contrived - so forced - as if it were never part of the original conception, as if it were sculpted out of box office desperation, like Bhatt singing a Telugu song at a recent promotional event. Just take a look at its cynical casting: Nagarjuna Akkineni (for the "South Indian" audience), Mouni Roy (TV audience), Bachchan (all audiences). Still not satisfied? Shahrukh Khan (for all audiences +1) in a superfluous subplot. The makers aren't trying to tell a story as much as feeding cash in an ATM machine, thinking it'd vomit more cash. This is the current state of Bollywood - and has remained so for a very lo time. It's devolved into an industry where you're not just an audience but an audience and a stripper.

It doesn't even have one solid action set-piece - something that originates from this movie. And the performances are, at best, passable. Roy is easily the best among them. Someone should shake the Bollywood folks and tell them that, Baahubali is done."There's no point catching a train that's already left the platform - like there's no point studying hard for an exam that you've already failed.

This is a great point tbh. They’re trying to find this magic formula to success, as opposed to just focusing on making a great product.

Bollywood movies now a days lack originality and sincere acting. It has been turned just a fashion thing to look good and pretty thats it.

The piece is spot on about director thinking something else and feeling something else and mixing all sorts of formulas from old BW films, mythology and Hollywood hoping to appeal to audience.

No coherent story telling.

good piece, captures everthing I felt about it. If you try to get a hit formula and make a movie, it will be a wannabe only

Bollywood needs to make dumber films with more color, music, action and dialoguebaazi. That's clearly what the audience wants.

Sorry to say hardly anyone in Bollywood looks good now a days. They have a very few genuinely good looking people left. Maybe they lost the idea of what good looking is so even Kriti Sanon thinks she is good looking ???

Ouch.

I mean Kriti's got mannish face I agree, but she isn't that bad looking either. 😆

She meant Kriti's own quote.

Kriti Sanon on her struggling days: I was told I’m too good-looking to be an actor

What are some films

Where you were rooting for the pairing of the lead actor/actress with the second lead/side character instead of with the main one?
