Ouch.
I mean Kriti's got mannish face I agree, but she isn't that bad looking either. 😆
She isn’t bad looking at all. But her making the excuse I struggled because filmmakers thought I was too good looking to caste ? Seriously?
I take Tanul with a grain of salt. He's the most pretentious, cynical, and grumpy critic out there. I feel he's way off on some assessments and partly right at best.
For example, Baahubali being done does not mean there is no more room for a historical high fantasy film. There was room for Star Wars even though Star Trek was a thing. There was room for Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, and so much more. There had been multiple iterations of Batman, Superman, and Spiderman before the MCU was built. Just because something is done, and done well does not mean it should be the only thing to stand in that space.
What Bollywood is missing is "heart". The x-factor which makes people care for and get invested in its character. The heart is both subjective and elusive. Sometimes it's carefully written and sometimes it's dumb luck. Taika Waititi can dazzle with Ragnarok and fizzle with Love and Thunder - two movies with the same style of shooting and humor, one was a revolution in the MCU the other made Thor fans get exhausted with Thor.
I personally don't think the Hindu mythology angle is contrived. I think every desi kid wonders what it would be like to have a fantasy fiction world built on our stories and histories. Ayan seems genuine in the creation of the Astraverse.
I think he lost his way in the casting. It is a mistake many people make where they believe the scale of casting determines the scale of the film. He was so engrossed in casting names that generate a buzz that he failed to create a universally compelling story. And even than, it wasn't the story that disappointed many people. The story was fine. It was the dumbing down of it to mind-numbing levels that people found offputting.
I think a lot of celebs have made this statement in the past 😆 I read somewhere that the casting director of Slumdog Millionare rejected a lot of BW actresses because apparently they were too “good looking” for the part.Originally posted by: Grumpydwarf24

Funny thing. I think the biggest difference between Ragnarok and L&T is that Taika wrote the latter, while experienced comic book writers wrote Ragnarok. A lot of Brahmastra's issues could have been resolved if Ayan got an experienced writer on board.Originally posted by: return_to_hades

Well said. Today's lot does not look good even with surgeries. Atleast Sridevi looked better after nose job.

I dont think it is that, a PS 1 is being made today which is historical fiction, or an adipurush, they may have all got momemtum or budgets because of baahubali worked, but they are original in their stories conceptualization and will build a world of their own. adipurush being ramayana will have a soild world I am guessing.
the main complaint of brahmastra was as you said casting and also that mythology was not deeply embedded and people expected more of that, they wanted to know more about the astras, its origin, the world, what they got was a love story which was trite

Sridevi had natural gorgeous features. Even if had to fix the nose. She had the largest prettiest pair of eyes.
P.S. I like Kriti. She is a good actress. But I liked her for her down to earth nature. But If she made that statement on KWK. It kind of comes across conceited. Imagine if Aish had said that in her prime? She use to be bashed for being fake.

Oh really? I didn't know that detail. But yes, good writing that develops characters well is key. I was surprised L&T was so bad as 'The Mighty Thor' comic book run was so critically acclaimed.
Good looking thing is BS. Dharmendra, Hema, Madhubala, were all good looking yet they did all sorts of roles including street urchins, rural, street side folks.
