Why public accepts aged actors not actresses

Why is it that we as audience accepts actors across many decades but actresses generally have a career span of around 10-15 yrs.

Is it because men age slowly or is it because we are used to watching men elder to women always in marriages in our society.

Instead of casting younger actresses with Khans or Akshay (and others) why not cast older actresses who are just as talented or pretty

I think the scripts have poor roles for females where they are sidelined whereas the males are the centre of attention. Khans are still loved and their films used to do well pre-pandemic. (Akshay has had one hit in the pandemic).

I think it's also because men are ALLOWED to age(i think a hollywood actress had said this),for instance take kareena and hrithik. Both show signs of aging as people of their age groups do but when people look at hrithik they say "so hot,so handsome" (not even "still so hot, still so handsome") but when people look at kareena they say "so glad she is not insecure enough to get work done"

Man with not so young skin is rugged, woman with not so young skin is old.

Why not tabu is doing great. She got appreciation for BB. Raveena, Madhuri, sushmita did web shows. Public can accept them if they will come up with good projects with appropriate roles.

^ it's because people believe things like this nonsense!

I remember my little sister once explaining to me that "women mature faster than men, that's why when they get married, the guy should be few years older"😲 - and me, her older brother was like "erm WTF no..." 👎🏼- unfortunately girls have internalised misogyny due to this patriarchal world. I am fortunate enough to, from a young age, seeing things from an alternative perspective, I think it's got something to do with being otherised by my environment, due to my Queer af ass 🤔/

Men tend to appear to age slowly due to biological reasons and not entirely because of internalised misogyny. Appear is a key word here. In actuality men age quicker than female, but women after a certain stage age a lot quicker, which makes them appear much older at a certain age.

Also let us tell the truth as it is the main audience of movies are male, and majority of the male audience doesn't care about the acting chops in female, but the physical beauty. And men tend to prefer younger or younger looking females for aesthetic and sexual pleasure. Now call it perversion, sexism, misogyny and regressive whatever you want, lekin yehi hai main reason.

Because of patriarchal social conditioning which makes people believe man should be older, look more dominant and mature and woman should be young, docile, childlike, vulnerable.

Even young women are judged based on their looks which is why we have topics bashing Madhuri and calling her too old for Khans despite being around same age as them.

I had heard people calling Sara as old looking or too old to debut. Even at 23 she was being called mature or too old for debut.

I find it paedophilia type thinking to admire much older men and want women to look or sound like vulnerable or innocent girls. I have seen people judge Sara's voice for example.

Or call Vidya Balan as 'too old' even when she did Parineeta.

Conversely men get mocked or made fun of if they do not look old or mature. For eg Aamir was mocked and called chocolate boy, bachchu, 'not hero material', not macho enough and only good for college kid roles all through 90s. He was rejected when he did Baazi. Salman was also called too boyish when he did MPK, HAHK. Salman and Aamir had to do tapori type roles in Rangeela, Judwaa to break those stereotypes and prove they could do so called manly roles.

Tiger was also mocked for looking like his mom or compared to Kareena and not being as rugged as his dad Jackie and he had to grow facial hair and build bulkier frame to change that image.

It is conditioning through pop culture, literature, society and age old tradition of even kids marrying older men and generally men preferring to marry younger women and society not even preferring to marry woman of same age to the man of her age, which has led to such conventions that man should be older or woman should be younger or man should be dominant and leader and woman should look coy, submissive, in need of protection.

Heroines rarely had strong roles either. They were mostly damsels in distress and it is hard to show an older woman as damsel in distress or clueless or as innocent as some lost in the woods type little girl in need of rescue by hero. Hence that bias.

Also, there was no tradition of polyandry but widely practised tradition of polygamy due to which, women do not find issues with finding a married man with kids or older age attractive but men begin to dissociate from older or married actresses with kids. Society also judges women more harshly compared to men. For eg no one will judge SRK for kissing Anushka in Harry Met Sejal but Anushka or Deepika will get judged if they do romantic or sexual scenes and Madhuri will be ripped apart if she kisses a 2 decades younger actor. Tabu was also mocked for kissing Ishaan in web series.

Sexist society never asks what will family of man say if he kisses or holds hands of others or reveals his body but will bash women or ask how their husband, in laws or kids tolerate it or mock them or call them MILF or aunty or despo for still acting, dancing or dressing or doing make up or doing intimate scenes or even working or being ambitious.

No one judges Amitabh for working till date as much as they judge women working in older age and call them greedy or addicted to limelight.

Finally women are mostly eye candy in films. No author backed roles at all. Heroes still have better roles, author backed characters and stories tailor made for them. A TZP could be made showing female teacher too. But such roles are not given to women. Whereas men even play college kid or newly married man at 70 and use dozen special effects to look young.

If woman is mainly known for looks, innocence or sex appeal or dance, then how will she be accepted after a certain age?

Society is sexist and judges men far less for botox or plastic surgery as much as they judge women for getting work done or their pics being Photoshopped. We should change things from our side first. I am happy there are couples like Vicky and Kat, Arjun and Malaika, Ash and Abhishek where woman is older. I hope more stories of older woman, younger man are shown onscreen and accepted in real life. I also hope women also stop judging other women and calling them aged in 20s itself and stop lusting after men who are 50 plus raisins. Start welcoming younger heroes. On TV also it is a shame that oldies like Ram Kapoor and Ronit Roy used to romance girls as young as 17 YO Prachi Desai and serials got top ratings. Whereas till date only 2 serials have been made where heroine is older than hero.

It's same thing in marriage world and corporate world. According to men and some women, women have shelf life. Their main aim should be reproducing male kids. I have heard this from enough educated people.
