To be honest even women here are rather toxic. I mean Hema, Rekha, Zeenat, Meena Kumari, Waheeda Rehman, Parveen, Sridevi were all obsessed with married men. Or there are women like Jaya Bachchan who openly espouse regressive patriarchal values.
Those days is different from these days.
The underworld was heavily interested in the actresses, so they would be forced to entertain. Then they had to have "relationships" with the often married stars they worked with. Then there was the casting couch of the directors.
Very few respectable households would ever take them for their single sons. They made mistakes in getting involved with married men but a lot of times the married men were powerful and that was the advantage. For example Helen with PN Arora, then with Salim Khan who helped her from that case. It wasn't fair to Salma Khan, his first wife ofc.
I do judge the actresses post-90s who get involved with married men but the married men are as much to blame. (ie Sushmita has dated so many sleazy people, Rani...etc)
