Priya 1.0 + help + Ram
Priya had a whole beautiful journey with respect how she viewed help, it changes organically as her relationship with Ram progresses.
1) Priya as a person had an aversion to the word 'help', especially financial help , because she out of her life experiences till that point believed that no help is selfless , everything comes with a price and when time comes all hisaab kitaab will be done.
It is quiet natural for her to think that way, when she has to fight her own father to get him pay the EMI of joint bakery every month, how will she trust a stranger of few days, that it is help without any expectation of return and not ehsaan.
Added to her own experiences, is the pressure of how will Kapoor family perceive any help she takes from Ram. Considering they made her sign the prenup , it is quiet evident they do not want her to take any rights on what belongs to Ram, even though Ram teared the papers, it doesn't change the expectations of Nandini and Shubham from Priya and the fact that how they feel affects Ram a lot.
Her hesitation to accept any financial help I totally get. That has not changed even for Priya 2.0... she has never accepted any monetary assistance from Krish or her sisters for herself or Pihu. No matter how much she struggled her independence & self respect in that respect she has never compromised on. And I love her for that.
2) Things start changing when Ram explains Priya, that he doesn't look at her as a sympathy or charity case " Mujhe tumhari care karne ki saza mat do, aadat daal lo" and Priya is left dumbfounded, she cannot bring up any counter argument .
3) With this assurance from Ram she starts her journey of trusting him when the sex scandal of Akki happens and things become nasty.
4) She withdraws once again , but Ram tells her to fight him and not withdraw which is when she voluntarily works hard to overcome her aversion of asking help and for the first time openly asks Ram to 'help' her to catch the culprit.
I really liked it when she gave Ram left and right after that kaand saying 'Meera Ma' se 'Aunty' kehne main ek second nahin laga or something to that effect. And he learn his lesson. The turning point was when during the 'Akki stole Kangan kaand' he unquivocally supported Priya and Akki and gave left and right to Shubham, Mami and Vedika. I loved the faith & trust he was finally showing. And that was a big turning point for Priya.
5) By the time Varun comes in picture, Priya has accepted her rights on Ram and that she can count on him for help. She has a beautiful monologue where she says jo pehle 'ehsaan ' lagta tha woh ab 'haq ' lagta hai.
Thanks for reminding me...had forgotten that dialogue and that incident!
6) Priya worked very hard in trusting Ram overcoming her fears of cheating, prejudices against men and rich upper class, to even voluntarily buying Kachoris to erase the painful memories of MS and replace it with the memories of Ram.
Cut to Priya 2.0, look at the lift scene, in spite of everything that happened between them , she goes and asks for 'help' to sort out the lift mess.
There she had no option! But she hesitated a lot before taking his hand when he was trying to get her out of the elevator. Her thought process was not at all clear. Was she ready to sacrifice herself rather than take his help and only Pihu's though kept her from giving up😲??
This is kind of a whole journey.
Coming to Priya + Krish + help
1)Fortunately for Krish, he walked into Priya's life when she had already undergone a rigorous journey of withering her layers of ego and prejudice. The first reaction when Krish sees Pri is Khadoos Priya Sood, but the woman had already undergone a metamorphosis from Priya Sood to Priya Kapoor.
Very well put!! It was a metamorphosis...and that was perhaps the reason she was pretty cool about admitting that Krish was her crush back in college. It seemed uncharacteristic, but by then Priya was basking in the love of a companion who made her feel secure and special in his love. And she herself was in so deep by then, that she was no longer self conscious and wary of men.
The writers rushed up on PriSh friendship without proper scenes because they were in a hurry to bring upon leap with infidelity track.
That is the real issue..their only communication centred around finding Ram's dad's killer, exchanging information, planning the next move, but other than that their really was no real bond of friendship shown to be evolving between them before the whole Shivi drama happened and he became her sole support system! Very badly planned by the writers.
But leaving aside their loose writing, the broad idea behind Priya not being harsh on Krish the way she was with Ram is with Ram's support Pri already overcame most of her prejudices, and thus with Krish there is no need to start from Khadoos Priya . She talks and connects to him like how any normal girl would do with a college buddy. Had Krish met Priya Sood of episode 1 , it would have been an entirely different journey.
2) Further Priya is extra cynical when it comes to Ram, because it is with him that she shares the most important and initmate relationship. Everyday he challenged her idea of love, men, haq and help. Her fear of falling in love with him made her extra calculative and sceptical.
If she trusts this beautiful bubble and things fall apart , it would be an extremely difficult task for Priya to gather the broken pieces of her heart and rebuild her life . ( Unfortunately everything that she feared happened and she somehow is still alive )
Again beautifully put...he constantly challenged her with his excessive care and possessiveness around her! But her deepest insecurities became her reality overnight all thanks to Shivina's accident.
With Krish it is different. He is no husband, no lover, there is nothing to be calculative about, no fear of things falling apart . If Krish solved the VK case and bid tata bye bye forever, nothing pretty much would have changed in Priya's life. She wouldn't even miss him.
I think that is where the beauty of friendship comes . One in which there is no fear of judgement , no interference of family dynamics (Unlike the constant fear of how Nandini would react to anything Ram does for Priya) . Wish makers explored the friendship aspect more deeply.
I really want a track where Ram realizes or Pri makes him realize that if today she is able to talk and laugh with men casually whether it is Krish or a random Apnapan serial hero , not thinking of them as default culprits having a free pass to hurt people, it is because of how she evolved in the time spent with Ram.
One day I want Ram to be proud of this version of Priya instead of feeling angry/possesive/insecure because it is the result of his qualities and support and Priya's hard work on herself that she has reached here.
Ahh...if only the writers had the depth to explore this aspect of Ram-Priya relationship...it is so beautiful and a testament to how Ram's love transformed her from Khadoos Priya to bindaas Priya!
@red For Priya 1.0 , Krish was a college acquaintance whom she knew to be smart and believed in his intellectual abilities . He was a trustworthy private investigator . Priya didn't even think that Krish might care for her. In her confrontation with Ram she says, I am just a clue for Krish , if anything happens to me , it doesn't mean anything to Krish but you on the other hand will stop the whole investigation for my well being.
@Bold, I think it is quiet the opposite. Although I want some depth in PriSh's relationship I fail to find any.
He unfortunately in spite of doing so much still comes across as a very dispensable part of both Priya and Pihu's life. She simply disappears on him one fine day leaving no whereabouts . The fact that with this decision they would probably never be able to connect again doesn't bother her tad bit.
Even now if you see, she never asks for help when it comes to her life or Pihu when she actually could have asked for a lot. The only place where she instinctively runs to Krish for help is when it comes to investigating something , finding clues etc. When it comes to her inner circle , Krish is nowhere. The only reason she agrees to spending birthday with him is because it will give Pihu happiness and not because it would give happiness to her to ring in bday with a friend.
That is also where a big lacunae in their relationship lies. Friendship is unconditional acceptance of the other, to be there for each other no matter what. And it is not a one way street...holds true both ways. But here even though Krish seems to bethere for her whenever she needs, there is something missing from her side if its true friendship. Like you say, she does not care for him beyond the fact that he is there when she needs him and took care of Pihu and shares a loving bond with her child. I am not denying that she will be eternally grateful to him for taking care of Pihu when no one was around but there seems to be nothing deeper than that. To me it feels like he is being used and left high and dry to some extent.
And that is why I was trying to get a better understanding of what does she really feel for him. I guess it is a writing, characterisation flaw again that they have not managed to show their relationship like it is with true friends like say Adi or Brinda are for Ram. Also somewhere the fact that they are supposed to have had an extramarital affair taints the picture in our mind. Otherwise it could be one beautiful friendship.
Pihu too doesn't seem to be very attached to him. When he is around she enjoys , when he isn't she doesn't care. He isn't indispensable to her either.
I really wish PriSh friendship was handled beautifully because it really makes me happy to see how far the Khadoos introverted girl who used keep to herself and library has come in life. She deserves a friend like Krish and he deserves her friendship too and not someone who comes to him only for investigation and disappears suddenly, doesn't even call to tell him that bday plan is cancelled , while he simply sat waiting for Priya and Pihu.
Instead what the makers give us is leaving every episode as a cliffhanger, as if it's just a matter of time, from tomorrow Krish joins the gang of Heera Vedu.
His character is one of the most stagnant one note characters in the show. And they are keeping him walking a thin line so we all can hate him and Ram's insecurities keep getting fueled by his mere presence as the do the audience's. But I don't think he will turn negative...he will be the one sided lover hanging by the ring side!
