The crying under the blanket is part of Abhi's childhood trauma and something his mother would have seen so in many respects it was a shared experience between the two and thus the makers felt this is how Manjari needed to find him.
I understand people are upset that when we first saw this blanket scene was in Abhi's dream with him sharing his hurt with Akshu. And many ways represented how he felt about Akshu. She was the light for him. But it was a dream and he never specifically shared what he did as a child to her.
Better way to handle all of this is:
There should have been a scene with Akshu comes to console him and he talks about what he use to do as a kid. Maybe have him hold a sheet but not actually be under it.
Then Akshu sees Manjari and excuses herself to get water for Abhi so son and mother can have a talk.
My issue with the scene was that the sheet represented something in the past of hurt and fear. Manjari has signed the divorce papers why would Abhi hide underneath the sheet if his mother is now free? Now if he was holding it and remembering things that's different.
