SLB, who kicked out Salman, lost to DP? Sorry, mate. Got a hard time believing.😆 If true, I want DP to share the secret. I'll use it at my next salary negotiation.

I believe in equal pay for equal work. But a valid criticism of this when it comes to movies is that equal work does not result in equal revenue. A well-established star's tiny cameo will generate more sales at higher prices than a newcomer who worked hard for a whole film. Bollywood has also mostly been a hero's genre where the man generates more revenue than a woman.

Perhaps there should be a formula that determines revenue based on the average ROI of past films. I think there is an unwritten backend formula, but I think more transparency will assuage most folks.

I do feel it's a shame when women don't get the revenue for the same amount of work. But asking investors to ignore box office draw is unfair as well.

But isnt it conditioned since many years that movies are made centered around male roles ? and eventually that has led to them being crowd pullers? were actresses even give similar opportunity to begin with except few occasional movies?

Also, actor/actresses are visual selling point of the movie so am not sure how fair it so to compare even the lightboys/technicians in same bracket? they fall in totally different section of the movie production but actor/actresses are the face of the movie which brings audience and since decades it has been ruled my male dominant roles...its not an overnight culture.. a very patriarchal side of the movie culture

also if a higly paid male actor is the reason I might not go to a movie ....will he get less pay ? 😆

(example: I avoid Akshay kumar movies simply cos he is the lead, I hope his pay is cut 😳)

Its we the audience who shun the movies where the main character is a woman...barring a few like English Vinglish, Kahani etc....and there is nothing to be ashamed of......I don't want to spend my hard earned money if a movie doesn't interest me just to raise actresses like Rani or Deepika or Kriti.....they are not my responsibility...If I have to think of uplifting women...I will spend my hard earned money on women who need it...may be buy a handicraft piece from an NGO that works for women....not for these highly educated and sometimes filthy rich women.

SRK with FAN gave a 20 crore opening without any popular leading ladies.....that is more than the life time of some of the female oriented movies....the point being we really can't compare BW with other industries...its business....the one generating more profit gets paid more...simple.

No he doesn't especially the part where he is trying to justify actresses' less pay by putting everyone in a same bracket be it actors or technicians. I can agree with crowd pulling part somewhat but this comparison was bullshit ...how many of us know technicians name or even take time to read credits?..they are that invisible to audience unless if u r a very passionate movie goer who takes note of all the minute details behind the scene...so the audience doesnt even know them unlike the actresses.

it is not a skill based profession, so bound to happen

which is why you can walk in with just connections

of course discrimination exists, only super successful in all aspects like madhuri, sridevi, vijayasanthi in south pulled of same or bigger pays

actually even actors should not be paid so much, it should be writers and filmmakers like hw

unless that happens quality will not improve

It's an explanation, not a justification, the point about technicians is that they work equally as hard as anyone else, but they're not going to be paid crores, simply cause they are not the reasons why people come to the cinemas. His main point was that the market decides the value of an actor, Aamir draws more audience than Kareena and Rani put together, hence more revenues, why should they get paid the same as him? No investor is going to pay them the same amount, it's ridiculous.

If he was so confident about his pov he should not have brought the technicians into the conversation even so it more or less felt like justification to me and about being crowd pulling by male actors I have already stated my views on my previous post.
