A lot of them look familiar, like Sheesha ho ya dil and a bunch of those featuring Rajesh Khanna.

Unfortunately, I was never exposed to these songs as a kid, so I didn't really develop a taste for them. My dad knows absolutely nothing about bollywood and my mom only started watching bollywood in the 90's ... she was watching stuff mostly from the 80's. and I never gave much priority to listen to anything other than pop culture stuff and whatever was blasting on the radio as a kid/teen.

these songs only came to my notice in the last ten years, I'd say, and I'm only learning to like them now. The old school charm is quite fascinating for sure. :) and I get the fascination with the poetry in these songs cuz I'm a sucker for it too. :)

I credit all those remixes and covers by singers like Sanam, etc. cuz they recreate the best and popular ones from those days . His rendition of Gulabi ankhein is so glorious and uplifts my mood right away, for example... it got me listening to the original one by Rafi too, which has its own charm. and he has so many others that are equally charming.

and that's where I stop rambling ... all I wanted to say is that I'm shooketh to the cores!! 😆

haha you sound a lot like my cousin. She grew up listening to american music... and going to church choirs to sing alto. She's learned hindi music on her own, somewhat like me... but she has a bit of an english accent that i find both cute/ amusing.

btw how one can deal with the public/ private issues around posting audio clips. Wondering if I should just send as attachments in PMs to specific individuals. Over the past 2 years, I must have put together about a hundred songs from the karaoke events. I imagine I would need to probably need to filter them by individual preference etc. Maybe if I am feeling brave and stupid, I might just post a couple here. Need to figure that out :)

Speaking of old songs. I feel like only KK could do justice to them. I’ve been playing this everyday since he passed away.

..

I’ve spammed you enough 😆

👍🏼my sentiments totally. I can listen to him, but it's hard for me to watch him now though.

Btw, i had the chance to sing a few mukesh numbers-

jo tumko ho pasand

woh tere pyaar ka gham

zikr hota hai qayamat ka

dil ki nazar se- duet with someone else

i had not heard these songs much, and went at them mostly from faint recall... from some place deep in the subconscious. Not recommended going impromptu but it worked for me.

for some reason, I generally like either the extremely old Hindi film songs or the very new ones. 90s was mostly english music, an interest that carried over thru college until a few years ago.

@coma-inducing ghazals=> I can relate to that because I was the same way.smiley36 Lately, I've started to love them. Of course one cant listen to them all the time... but they're a nice switch.

I’ve never been into English music, so my whole life, I’ve been listening to Hindi songs. The 90s hits the hardest for me, because my love for Bollywood was at its peak.

My taste in music keeps changing/adapting, so who knows, maybe one day I’ll not fall into an open-eyed coma. 😆

Responding to your reply to Smitten/Ibleed, whenever you feel comfortable, you can either PM a link (can even do it as a group message if you want to send to more than one recipient). If you’re feeling extra daring then you can post the link here. Whatever floats your boat. I’d offer to sing as well if it made it less awkward but my singing would make everyone’s ears bleed. 😊

remember singing this in the early days when I was starting out.

ALso the song they played at Rafi's funeral. Zamane ne maare.

As it happens, both are RK movies.

am the same way in some respects. In my case, I go back and forth across different different genres. In the gym, its mostly english music that we listened to or played in hs/ college. Late at night, it's hindi film music or ghazals. It gets boring just listening to the same thing, so its different eras too.

my hesitation with posting publicly is just around privacy issues. Will sort it out in my mind before seeing which way to go.

Am also sure you sing nicer than you're making out to be. 😊

oh well, gn

You can PM me your audio clip/s. I can upload it on one of the audio sharing sites like soundcloud. or vocaroo where the link expires in 3-4 months. or we can just take it down after everyone's done listening to your singing.😆 I haven't looked into audio sharing options but I can explore and figure something out.

Hiesenberg should also know how to go about it the best way. I'm sure you can PM him and he can make it private and safe to share here too.

G'nite!

I’ve been listening to Kamli Kamli on repeat while at the gym. In fact, I heard this is a popular song to play at the gym. I’m gonna try this out even though nobody has thukra ke mera pyar 😆

Totally understand and respect your hesitation. I usually upload my audio files on dropbox - not my actual personal account but more of a public one, which doesn’t show my personal details (though it’s a bit too late for me to worry about that). I’m sure there’s websites on the internet where you can upload an audio file and completely maintain anonymity. No pressure, just an idea. 😊

Thank you but I’m very humble. I sound like shit when I’m singing and I’m totally okay with that. 😆

Have a good night

that gym song ... 🤣 I can totally see how that can getting you all pumped up for revenge body.

and I would sing something too but I'm cough-s-h-y-cough about my bollywood singing, I can't pronounce some words and I don't wanna embarrass myself with my off-tune singing. So I'm sorry for passing on that too. Plus I was not the one announcing to the world that I sing.... so. 😆

That was all birdie's doing.

Heartbreak is the best fitness regime. 😉

Um, how dare you be shy? Have you heard me speak Hindi? I'm literally AWFUL. I get my genders confused and start speaking like a guy. Yet, I'm willing to sing for you. So I don't want to hear any excuses. 😆
