i think that's such a sad number.... and beautiful like so many of the early music. I've been learning these given the focus of the karaoke group is mostly retro BW songs with some modern ones. I am probably the only one who also tries ghazals- jagjit, mehdi hasan, ghulam ali. Just to experiment.

i picked some very old lata numbers to try next event- ruk ja raat, and tera mera pyaar amar, ab to hai tumse. I think she had some of the most beautiful songs to sing. Wish there were male versions too.

No, it’s one of my favourites. I have a bit of an old soul, so I enjoy these classics, especially from Mohammad Rafi and Kishor. Grew up liking them coz my parents loved these songs. 🤗

Maine dil se kaha is such a sad song ... 🥺 but sure, whatever works for you! :)

sad we lost both Irfan and KK. I love that number for KK's singing, and the trombone after the initial part. I think he could render songs of heartbreak without seeming to cry.... while another great singer Mukesh was the opposite- he made even simple romantic numbers sound very sad.... but beautiful nevertheless. Dont know if I explained that well :)

ok I am learning... to keep up with all the classically trained females in my group. They'd kick me out if I tried remixes. Some females can be such disciplinarians, you know😆

ps- am gonna go easy on the pedal now. Racked up quite a few posts here😆

The move itself has a lot of sad songs. This is another one from the movie.

I’ve always preferred depressing songs, especially because of the lyrics and poetic brilliance. Some of Jagjit’s songs are a personal favourite, including Chiti na koi sandesh, koi faryaad, hothon se cholo tum and hoshwalo ko khabar kya.

Saatam Shivam Sundaram is Lata’s best till date (in my opinion). This contestant will give you the male version of this song and it is brilliant. Listen till the end if you have time.

yeah I watched the video of that song and was thinking the same -- both of them made a splash and are now gone. :(

I only know one song of Mukesh and that's yeh mera deewanapan hai ... cuz of another girl who sang it so amazingly and has been one of my favorites for the last ten years. This one.

(and I listened to the original one too afterwards--I think I get what you're saying)

okie, I'm gonna have to get back to work now, and you will run out of your post count soon, so you can just react and leave it at that. 😆

could you post a list of lata, rafi and kishore songs that you like?

My favs from the old classics are-

woh shaam kuch ajeeb thi

tere mere sapne ab ek

jaane bahar husn tera

tujko pukare mera pyaar

jagjit:

tere aane ki khabar

aah ko chahiye ek umr

kabhi yoon bhi to ho/ kaun ayega yahaan- two of the saddest songs ever

... so many others

I heard a guy in our group sing jaane bahaar husn- its an especially tough song to sing imo and he did brilliantly. The lyrics are so beautiful too.

@Heisen: If you thought you weren't gonna get pulled up on it too, you thought wrong. 😼

Since birdie is gonna make us wait till mid July, and you said that you sing too, I think it's only right that you give this track a try, don't you think? 😛

Oh thank you for the lists. there’s some I haven’t heard. I got excited seeing the aah ko chahiye ek umr, since that’s based on my favourite poem ever. There’s so many songs I like but I’ll narrow it down. Here are some favourites from Rafi
