(mahi way)..:post that aman is in the hospital , she comes to know of his condition and cries at the bridge …then cries at her mehendi….and then cries walking down the aisle …cries while sitting at the Mandap with rohit, cries during bidaai…check for reference if u want …can count how many times she looks peaceful and smiles …their wedding is literally the set while kal ho na ho SAD plays in the background …

Yes she’s not crying because she hates the wedding she’s crying because of the news she heard abt aman …nevertheless I don’t think any bride should deserve to be pre occupied with the news of someone’s imminent death, at the time of her wedding …she should be happy and smiling and maybe a little sad she’s moving out of her family …that’s what rohit deserved too …a peaceful wedding not one where they look back and how and remember how bad they felt abt aman …

Clearly everyone’s feeling like shit after hearing abt aman …the sensible thing to do would be they deal with that first, maybe give aman the confidence that she will be fine and they will eventually marry

Kal Ho Na Ho is one of the most groan inducing, unwatchable SRK movies for me personally but I try not to diss it when FF is around here knowing how much she loves it and bawled her eyes over it. 🤭

The songs were top notch though and the movie had its moments. 😆

Some interesting discussion about Kal Ho Na Ho.

I don't find it regressive or problematic. I may be biased here because I love that movie.

Aman's behavior is quite normal for people with a terminal or potentially terminal illness. Many people who are dying can develop an overzealous zest for life where they are hyper and positive about everything. They're racing against time and trying to make the most of it.

Similarly, they also have a need to see their loved ones happy and taken care of when they are gone. Dying people will encourage their partners to date and find someone to be with. They may plead for siblings, and children, to get married sooner than later so they may see them married because they pass on. I do think this behavior is problematic because it ignores the free will of other people and emotionally blackmails them. That is why it is recommended to seek end-of-life grief counseling so that people can navigate their need to see everyone settled in a healthy manner.

I don't think Naina loses her free will in any way though. And this is what I like about Kal Ho Na Ho - love comes in different forms and isn't always a sweeping romance.

Naina and Rohit were clearly attracted to each other. There was light flirting and Naina was clearly jealous of him giving attention to other women. Had Aman not shown up, the friendship may have naturally blossomed into romance. Their dynamic was very Monica and Chandler esque.

Aman and Naina are the kind of romance people often desire - meeting a stranger who can sweep you off your feet. Naina falls for Aman because for the first time he brings some harmony to her family. Aman falls for Naina because she's the girl next door and gives him a sense of purpose in hs dying days.

Ultimately, Aman is just a catalyst to Rohit and Naina's relationship. He merely nurtures the existing sparks to grow into something more. Rohit and Naina are seemingly genuinely happy together. Their engagement takes place organically too.

When they find out Naina is upset because Aman denied her the choice, Rohit too is upset because he feels that he didn't genuinely win her over. They don't go on with the wedding to appease a dying Aman. They go on with it because they did enter into a happy fulfilling relationship. They're just mad that their relationship wasn't as organic as they thought it was and obviously upset about losing a dear friend.

I don’t think anyone questions nainas consent regarding whom to marry …it’s more abt how she was sorta manipulated into it …and then she dosent get the time to deal with the heartbreak of knowing her first love actually loved her back but backed off coz he’s dying …is her getting married more important than her coping with the grief at that point? Just so that the dying lover can a “see her settled” ? Isn’t that regressive …? He wants to see her happy yes but she’s clearly not …no one can be in her situation…she’s allowed to mourn and recover instead of force feeding happiness to her through a wedding

The whole thought of “I want to see u happy , please swallow ur sadness and smile for me and go through with this” is a regressive thought

But I can say with 99.99% confidence that the story writer of this movie didn't even put half as much thought into it than you did while reasoning out every bit of it with such indisputable facts and logic. 😆

It always looked like a massive compromise by Naina to me .... with poor Saif fully knowing that she's compromising but still going along with it cuz he was in love with her and nice enough to let her call the shots.

That entire wedding scene makes my head hurt for so many reasons starting with Naina bawling her eyes out the whole time on Aman's account ... cuz he's there watching them take the saat pheres with eyes full of tears, with the sad song playing the background. I wanted to poke my eyes out!

We all know he wishes he was in Saif's shoes throughout it all but can't be cuz he's dying. and Naina knows it too, throughout it all. There is no feel-good factor of a happy, fulfilling relationship to speak of there. 😒

Honestly now that I think about it, this movie is kinda messed up with the rushed storyline. I mean just a few days before her wedding Naina learns that the love of her life is dying, she wasn't even over her initial heartbreak and now she had to deal with this. I have always been of the opinion that Naina never loved Rohit in a romantic sense even though she shared a deep bond with him, she just didn't see him that way and sort of accepted her fate and settled for him because what else better than marrying your own bestie And Rohit deserved better, he was in love with a girl who was clearly in love with someone else, I mean I would have my second thoughts before marrying someone who is still head over heels for another person,or maybe even wait for sometime while that said person is still in the equation. On top of it all Aman playing the matchmaker and wanting to see Naina and Rohit together by hook or crook didn't help either, he literally played the catalyst in their relationship/marriage. IRL she would have been given a breather perhaps, why rush into a marriage when you are getting one emotional blow after another, she might have come to love Rohit later because "he was her husband" I mean in arranged marriages you get used to your partner after a while but I always felt her heart belonged to Aman only, that intense wala love you don't get to feel often, and maybe she never moved on from him, how could she, he was literally shown to be her angel in disguise ❤️😭

As Rohit said, Naina loves you, You love Naina, what am I doing in between No Rohit darling not you, Aman's illness came in between 💔😭 I remember watching this stupid movie as a child and bawling my eyes out and leaving with a broken heart when Aman died. I still like to think that in a parallel universe Aman - Naina got married, and had the most beautiful kids ever 😳

Aww 😂

Everyone cried as a kid watching kal ho na ho…it’s fine it’s a movie ..I understand there is attachment to it

But now as a grown up, when I see it it just dosent sit right with me that naina is essentially “steered” into a certain direction by aman , rohit and the ppl around her and forced into happiness like “yeh lo happiness…now smile”

Poor girl got rejected by her first love and in the background someone is matchmaking and trying to set her up with her best friend for her “happiness”

She’s not happy ..she’s grieving her rejection.
Then shes pissed abt the manipulation and yells at them …only to have aman make up a monologue which is actually his feelings but he reads it as if it’s rohits feelings in a diary…again manipulation

Then she’s sad that amans dying …rohit feels like shit coz he’s been manipulated too in a way

But everyone be like “chalo chalo get married I want to see u two happy”

Meanwhile rohit be like 😳 and naina be like 😭

Neither of them are feeling correct abt this, they don’t hate each other and will probs get married in time …but ffs can u let them be and deal…

Yes aman loved naina and naina loved aman and it’s heartbreaking they can’t be together

Yes rohit loved naina and she would have probably been happy with him

Can u let her get to that instead of pushing her there when she’s barely coped with all the emotional stress …?

I haven't watched this since it released way back. I knew something bothered me about this, and you have summed it so well, smarie!

Like there is happy crying, or the wedding jitter kind - then there is Naina's unprocessed feelings. I cried a lot during my wedding...it was like a running joke with my family to see how fast I'll start. I cried my eyes out at my chunni rasam, then maiya, then chura, getting dressed, right before pheras, and then finally at the bidaai. But it was not because I was mourning a love story - just that I was leaving a life I knew so well.

The man coming into help the woman find happiness...YUCK. But I guess KJo just wanted us to cry...so why not make everyone cry so we cry with them lol

Exactly my thoughts. Why did Aman have to play god and get her married to her best friend? She was in love with him, NOT Rohit, even if he rejected her, let her take her own decisions because she was perfectly capable of it. Even as a child I felt it was kinda stupid the way they both got married, as I mentioned earlier even Rohit deserved someone who would love him just as much as he loved Naina, what is the guarantee that Naina would anytime soon move on from Aman. And what was all that "6 din ladki in" nonsense. Have you seen "Kedarnath" movie? Sushant's character dies during the climax and I was glad that in the very next scene the heroine wasn't shown to be married to someone else while still crying and longing for her lost love, she perhaps chose not to marry that early, or not marry at all for quite some time, still reminiscing the beautiful moments spent with her love, with a smile on her face, don't know why that ending felt so wholesome to me for some reason. I am not saying Naina shouldn't have moved on, but I found it quite ridiculous that she and Rohit both had to rush into a marriage like that to justify the movie's plot.

@bold: aw! 💕 I like to believe that Veer Zara is the answer to all the movies where SRK and Preity were done wrong by their creative teams. He either dies or rejects her or cheats on her (KHNH, Dil Se and KANK respectively) 😆 For the love of God, even in VZ, they don't get together without him spending 22 long years in jail at her behest, but at least they do reunite at the end!

Here's another song where she's in tears with SRK making a gigantic sacrifice for your viewing pleasure. 🤗😆 At least he's just a figment of her imagination in it! (I love the song though, and I'm not kidding there, heh)
