Kalank went through its fair share of changes too didn’t it? Wasn’t it supposed to be called Shiddat at one point? It became clear from the trailer itself that Kalank had a major SLB hangover and throughout promotions they weren’t able to create a positive buzz about the movie itself. Also KJo skipping its trailer launch should have been a big clue that something wasn’t right.

Like you said, we are all guessing as to who’s really in charge of Brahmstra 🤷🏽‍♀️. I guess the trailer will give a better idea of how this movie is gonna go. If it works then it works and depending on how well it works it may or may not be a game changer for Indian cinema. Although talks of game changer has taken a whole new meaning after Rajmouli. I may be proven wrong but as of now I doubt this movie will be on par with what Rajmouli and Bahubali has achieved. But if it fails KJo might feel the financial loss but Ayan’s career will face the biggest loss.

I meant alia starring in kalank, there is a similar pattern of fitting square pegs into round holes here.

I didnt know this history of kalank but again a pattern here of getting in new directors and fitting them into films which do not suit their sensibility

I totally agree, at the most I see it being a decent hit but nowhere close to baahubali, but that just may not be enough for its ambitions of a trilogy.

History of casting of Kalank is all sorts of its own drama 😕.

Kalank was Shiddat when Karan wanted to make it himself. It was always Kalank with Abhishek. Karan Malhotra was the only one in Dharma's school who could have done that film. But he was on the outs because of brothers.

KJo greenlit ridiculously budgeted projects for all three Ayan, Shashank and Abhishek, when all three had only made low budget romcoms. Though for Shashank, the projects all fell through. Ranbhoomi, Shuddhi and that Varun spy film. I think that's the only reason he still has a career and three films coming. Actors keep getting chances disaster after disaster. But directors are out after one film. 😆

I didn’t know Shuddhi somehow went to Shashank. Was it the original Shuddhi story of reincarnation etc? That one’s casting is another set of drama btw 😆

Incidentally Karan Malhotra is Shamshera’s director and after Jayeshbai and Prithviraj everyone is wondering if that will be YRF’s third disaster.

Ayan, his movies wakeup Sid and YJHD. I felt only wakeup Sid was good but YJHD is boring af.

He cannot direct larger than life type of movies like bhramhastra. I feel the movie will fizzle out in the middle.

Coming to Bombay velvet, i never tried to watch this movie .. is it that terrible ?

Shiddhat was an old script from his father, no? And Shuddhi was that reincarnation drama. But then there was also Immortals of Meluha that never happened. That was the biggest loss. Back then the book was so hyped, even a half assed film would have been an all time blockbuster.

Yeah Shamshera is probably going to be shaky. But going by his last two films, I think Karan will atleast handle the budget and action better than Ayan or Abhishek. Even if the plot is dumb af.

Was bollywood trying to make an adaptation of Immortals? Why did it not happen? Kuch toh vision rakhte. It would have actually been something to look forward to.

It is with Shekhar Kapur right now. So that obviously means this film will never happen.

Yes Shiddat was an old script of his dad’s. I was under the impression that Shiddat morphed into Kalank. Shiddat was supposed to be a love story set in the time of partition.

I totally forgot about Immortals of Meluha. And now I’m wondering how much of it has been incorporated into Brahmstra during one of its many revisions.

Shuddhi had Salman as the lead cast for the longest time and then one day it was announced that Varun and Alia were doing the movie, with Salman’s blessings. Kalank’s cast was always a bunch of rumors. The strongest was that when Sridevi was approached for the movie she agreed on the condition that Janhvi get the lead and Kalank becomes her launch movie. There were definitely rumors of Janhvi being part of Kalank out in the press. This is where Alia’s self defined struggle came into play where she told KJo and Varman she’ll be very upset with them if she doesn’t get the role. Supposedly KJo promised Sridevi another launch movie for Jahnvi and that’s how she got Dadhak and Alia got Kalank. To be fair, KJo probably saw Alia as a better business decision than Jahnvi for Kalank. It’s a whole other story that Kalank failed and Dadhak did much better 🤷🏽‍♀️😆.
