you know I thought that too. I also thought he had injured his finger as a way to avoid arohi putting ring on it. But during one interview, HC said that abhi was not able to bear pain and hence he came up with this pain so as to lessen the effect of emotional pain.

But I agree with you.. self inflicting pain is very very serious and should be handled very delicately and properly.

Yeah, there is no doubt that Abhi was in great emotional pain at that time too, but my point is that the makers have not really shown this to be a part of his character, so it will seem like it's just for drama if they bring it in out of nowhere. Akshu also hit her hand against the chair that day out of pain, but that is different than someone using self harm as a coping mechanism.
