In Mex I like Tacos and Enchiladas.. I don't think I have come across any restaurant that's offering Afghan food🤔. Mentions some vegetarian Afghan options? Will search around..

Those names will def. come in handy my next trip, thank you. Someone needs to come up with a London and NY guide just for desi food. It's super overwhelming being there and not knowing where to go.

I also tried Nando's there. Keeping in line with the thread, I can see myself ordering takeouts at Nando's every other day if there was one where I live. 😆

I hate the lack of options here. -_- literally every single menu has the same five items - chicken tikka, butter chicken, paneer tikka, saag paneer, and some mixed curry, most of it thickened with cream. 😵

Why would you go to NY for Desi food?

It would most likely be a fusion or American take on Indian food or adjusted for American tastes (read less masala)..😆

yes I have. as far as Italian goes, you name it and I've probably had it. I can't pick a favorite though, the sauce and pasta depends on my mood but I love them all equally.

I love wine sauce pasta with seafood too .... more on the "healthier" side cuz I'm a health freak ... but don't come at me with the Trump GIF. 😆😆

Do pasta cheese etc considered "healthy" your posts deserves Trump gif😆

There are still around 11 hours left 😆 Sharing on IF has reduced some of that guilt.

Boroni Bonjon (consisting of fried eggplants that are cooked with a tomato sauce and seasoned with lots of garlic and mint. Borani Banjan is served with thick yogurt). It is compulsory to eat this with Afghan bread.

Boloni (Filled with either potato, leek or pumpkin). It is essentially a flatbread that is stuffed with a variety of ingredients and then fried. You eat it with either yoghurt or chutney.

Both you and Smitten have terrible and unrefined taste buds, Nandos is literally tasteless, I've only ever tried it twice, and not out of choice. 😆

You have hit a raw nerve and opened up Pandora's box with your question so bear with my rant ahead.

Because NY is the only place in all of US where the authentic taste isn't compromised by about a thousand times. 😭 and London. From the ones I've been anyway. I haven't been to Dubai but I'm sure the food scene is great there too. I'm in San Francisco and let me repeat that the food sucks here. There's no shortage of cuisine options but desi food sucks no matter where you eat here. I've never had a "wow" moment ANYWHERE in all the years I've lived here.

So yeah, I wanna go to NY again soon just for the food. Last time I tried out a highly recommended momo place in Jackson Heights in NY, it was on point with how desi food actually tastes back in India/Indian subcontinent. How do I know that? My last trip to my home country was in 2017 and when I returned back to the US, I couldn't believe how lame and dull everything tasted for weeks afterwards. On top of restaurants trying to please American palate, veggies, fruits, etc. right down to the spices all taste different here too, and lack that "zing" factor for lack of a better word. So even if you whip something up at home with all the right ingredients, it won't turn out as flavorsome as the same thing would back home.

What kills me is the lack of variety where I live though. No matter where you go, the appetizers section will have samosas, chaat, or some variation of that. And the entrees will almost always have Tikka masala, butter chicken, mix veggie curry and the good old Tandoori that never gets old. Knowing that there are about a thousand other food items out there (this thread is a fine example of that 😭) eating naan or roti with one of the flavorless five stopped exciting me years back.
