The fact is that while Bollywood gave some really good films in the last decade, there has been an increase in mediocrity and loss in quality.
It feels like producers just cast actors, get the "in thing" for music (like a couple of years ago one remake from Tanishk Bagchi had to be in the album), decide a public holiday release date...and then come up with a story that can be fit around said actors' strengths.
Also, Bollywood was and still is synonymous with music. Right from the 50s till now. Whether we as audience watch the movie or not, remember the storyline or not, or remember which actor(s) was it picturised on, the one thing we will definitely remember are the songs. It was one of the biggest investments...cut to now, the state of music in films is just sad and probably non existing. That was such a major selling point and a key marketing factor which filmmakers started to disrespect in a way.
The last album I can recall is Coolie No 1 which also had 2 remake songs. After that, it was so surprising when I realised on 2021's New Years Eve that I hadn't heard any new Hindi songs.
Bollywood is one of the biggest filmmaking industries in the world. It is an industry which supports so many. They really have to rethink their strategy because the audience is now exposed to foreign media and have become smart. Focus has to be put on quality over quantity, chosing talent over mediocrity and giving each department the respect they deserve.
