South movies have always done well within their budgets. It was in the late 70s and 80s that they had remade all Bollywood flicks, then they reinvented themselves.

Telugu movies have always dealt with great technology and mythological movies in fact in the 60s itself. They also pay the writers extremely well and a great churner of entertainment be it comedy or family or massy fights, of course some very ott ones too.

Malayalam thrives in high concept films and continue to do so till now.

Tamil is a mix of high concept and mass movies especially with great music

Kannada movie industry was quite niche most were remakes while some very good content movies, but it was too dominated by Rajkumar that talent was suppressed, it is only in the last few years that there has been a revival.

In Bollywood after Amitabh Coolie there was a very dearth of talent till MPK in between too much of Jeetendra and Mithun etc but did not last long and more were cringe

Then came SRK with NRI, Aamir with different concept, Salman with family and the Barjatya saga and Akshay, Ajay and Sunil with action and mass so audience had a variety.

Then Bollywood started to ape the west too much and became more of glamour and style than movies and it was okay in the beginning but with rise of ott and internet when you have direct access to those why would you watch an imitation.

Now south has not lost its roots and are telling Indian rooted stories which are connecting with the pan India folk

Bollywood doesn't have a young actor who can do massy action stuffs like KGF and RRR ... 90s stars were last of that breed and they have turned old now and this new generation of actors don't have the same charisma or mass appeal to cater to a big audience.

Lack of that kind of “ talent” to make movies of true Indian legacy ...😂😂😂

Lot of BW hits are remake of south Indian or Marati movies

Bollywood remakes most of the south hits and Salman minus dabang made a career out of it same with tiger shorf

Now south started releasing movies in large scale, it's not they started making these grand films all of a sudden,South always had better films it's just that north audience started watching the dubbed films through ott and got familier with south and bollywood is still trying to cater to multiplex audience

I don't think actors are a problem. I'm not a fan of the guy but Ranveer played a typical action hero in Gunday and looked good. Also Shahid and Varun, they're anyday better actors than Prabhas or Yash and look convincing as action heroes. Even Tiger, he just needs to learn a bit of acting. Vidyut Jamwal as well.

Ranbir is yet to prove himself in action. Shamshera and Brahmastra would tell.

@Bold - Yes. Technicians are valued a lot in South India especially the writers and cinematographers. In fact most of the directors in Telugu are writers themselves. In Hindi writers seem to have become extinct. After Salim Javeed team there's no writer who is noteworthy.Recently Salman Khan commented that they don't have writers in Hindi. He should know what he is talking about because his father is a writer and he knows how much a good writer can contribute towards making an engaging movie.

Also true the new age actors are too model like chiselled abs and poses and extremely bland in the way they speak and act, Ranbir is very limited as an actor and does only the coming of age stories but he is pushing 40 now and that won't work, Varun can go too over the top he needs to reign in and can do comedy films but with a Sriram Raghavan it is too niche and not pan India appeal. Ranveer is a hit and miss who can try but the budget needs to be very restricted, case in example 83.

To be honest it is the stories that make stars and we do not have such writers.

Amitabh became a huge star because his movies were highly entertaining and against the elite or it was being rebellious but his movies had punches and entertainment at its core.

So good stories are the key
