Epilogue

‘’Daddy, are we going home now? I want to play with Meera,’’ his son, Varan, asked him. He felt his little hand in his own and he looked at his son. He missed his front tooth what made him look more adorable. ‘’Yes, we are going home now. Mom and Meera are waiting for us,’’ he said. There appeared a big smile on his sons face. He picked him up and hugged him, nuzzling his neck, Varan his laughter made him smile. ‘’Daddy, stop it. It tickles,’’ Varan said. He pressed a kiss on his forehead before he put his son down. ‘’Let’s go home,’’ he said.

When he opened the door to the bedroom, his son sprinted past him and jumped on the bed. Raavi was leaning against the headboard of the bed, holding little Meerain her arms. She looked beautiful, her hair was long again, she got back to her normal weight, she was and looked healthy. Varan bowed his head and gave his little sister a kiss on her head. Shiva felt his hearth melt. He saw Raavi stroking the hair out of Varan his face, while he was telling her all about his day with daddy. He saw how she looked at Varan and smiled. God, she was beautiful, he will never take her smile for granted, he could remember the time she didn’t smile, she couldn’t smile and now she smiled the whole day. He walked to her and her gaze went to him, he lifted her chin with his finger and pressed a firm kiss on her lips. ‘’Ieuwww daddy, you can’t kiss mommy,’’ Varan said. Both of them laugh at the comment of their son.‘’And why can’t I kiss mommy?,’’ he said, before he bent down again and pressed a soft kiss against her lips. He looked at his beautiful daughter in her arms and he gave her a little kiss on her head, softly he stroked her cheek with his finger, he didn’t want to wake her up. ‘’Daddy’s don’t kiss,’’ Varan said to him. ‘’This daddy like to kiss,’’ he said to Varan and he pulled his son of the bed and he pressed little kisses on his face.

Raavi looked at Shiva and Varan. She couldn’t believe that she was so lucky that she got a whole family, Shiva, Varan and Meera. There was a time that she didn’t even knew if there would be a tomorrow but she found out that there was and it was great. After dr. Sinha told her she was in remission things didn’t get back to normal. This whole situation had changed her. Physically she was back to herself in two months but mentally not. Mentally she was struggling and it took her two years to get out of it. She was scared, scared to get sick again, scared that the doctors missed something, scared that she wasn’t strong enough to fight this the second time. Two weeks before her check-ups she felt the stress coming up, the fear through her body and that would only go away after the doctor told her that everything looked good. She felt the sword of Damocles hanging over her head. But eventually she got peace with all the check-ups, instead of given her fear it gave her reassurance. So now she only felt nervous and fear on the day she had a check-up but her Shiva was always there, holding her hand. So she choose to believe in her doctors, to trust them.

After those two years, she was finally ready to move on, she accepted her faith and she didn’t want to live the rest of her life being scared. Before she got sick, Shiva and she wanted a big family, so they tried. They went to a specialist and he told them that it wasn’t impossible but it would be very difficult. So after two years with still no luck they went through an adoption procedure and it worked, a year later they were blessed with their son Varan. He was 9 months when they adopted him and both Shiva and she fell immediatly in love with Varan and now her little boy was turning 3 in a couple of weeks. She loved him so much, she couldn’t describe it. Meera was a miracle, a miracle they didn’t expect. She found out she was pregnant thirteen months ago and she gave birth to a healthy and strong girl. Both Shiva and she didn’t expected that she would get pregnant but she did and now their family was complete.

She looked at Varan who was kissing his dad his face, mimicking his moves. Who knew that the day she felt the whole world crumble around her that years later she would be in this positions that she enjoyed every day of her life. She didn’t take a day for granted. ‘’’Varan, your grandmother missed you today. Go say heey to her,’’ she said to him. Shiva put him down and he looked at her, her sweet and gorgeous boy, ‘’Okay mom,’’ he said before he left. She stood up and put Meera in her bed. She felt the eyes of Shiva in her back, she put the blanket on Meera and turned around. Shiva was standing close. ‘’I missed you today,’’ he said. Such a simple words but it meant the world to her. ‘’I missed you too,’’she said to him. He looked at his wife, she was a mother now and it looked good on her. The day they adopted Varan, he was so happy and grateful. When they found out that she was pregnant of Meera, he was in a bliss. And when his sweet and beautiful girl came into this world he felt blessed. He had the love of his life beside him and two beautiful children. He grabbed the collar of her blouse with both of his hands and pulled her towards him. Her hands resting on his chest, she looked up at him and he saw the love in her eyes. He pulled her a little closer, forcing her to stand on her toes. He brought his face closer to her, he felt her breath against his lips, he moved a little closer and saw that she was closing her eyes. He bowed his head and placed a kiss on her cheek.Then he kissed the right corner of her mouth and then the left. He was going to kiss her on the nose next but his wife had other plans. She put one arm around his neck and pulled him towards her, she stood on her toes and she pressed her lips against his in a loving kiss. She lowered herself down so she was standing on her feet again, her eyes still on him, ‘’I love you Shiva,’’ she said to him. He looked at her, his wife, his better half, every day he thanked god for letting her stay with him, ‘’I love you Raavi, ‘’ he said and he kissed her again. ‘’Why do you keep kissing mom, its gross,’’ he heard his son say. Raavi and he looked at each other and they laugh. ‘’Nani says dinner is ready,’’ Varan said. ‘’Tell nani that we are coming,’’ he told his son. ‘’Okay,’’ he said and left. ‘’So were where we Mrs. Raavi Shiva Pandya,’’ he asked. ‘’You were telling me how much you loved me Mr. Pandya’’ she said and winked at him. And again he pulled her closer, ‘’I love you Raavi,’’ he said. She looked at him with that beautiful smile of her, ‘’I love you Shiva,’’ she said.

This story was personal for me cause I have been through the same emotions that was going through Raavi. The fear, to be scared and not knowing if you have a tomorrow.

So my message is:

“Life is short, and it is here to be lived”

One of the best ff’s I’ve read on Shiva and Raavi! A very painful read since it literally broke my heart in the first part, but very worth it! I love how complete our sweethearts feel in their life 🥺 Thank you for this beautiful story!

First of all, I’m so so sorry that you had to go through the experience. No one should have to go through this. But at the same time, the journey and spirit of survival in each patient makes me super proud. As someone who works in healthcare, these are the kind of stories that get us through our darkest days. That one person we managed to pull through, make a difference in whatever little measure. And I hope and pray you had your own version of a Chattan Pandya to stand by you throughout the ordeal.

This piece was so emotional and beautiful. I don’t think I have words to express. Everything felt so real because I’ve seen it happen up close way way more often than I’d have liked.
