There are two different styles of communication here -- Aryan is a doer while Imlie communicates with words. For Aryan, deeds and action translate into feelings whereas for Imlie, she needs to hear sentences and words stringed together.
What is Aryan hearing -- while Imlie may say that her ex no longer matters, she is still tied to the hip to the Tripathy family. She is even prepared to do a fake marriage to keep Aditya out of jail. Now any sane person would ask why go to such lengths unless you are in still love with the person. So Aryan would logically translate her extreme actions as someone who still has feelings for Aditya
What is Imlie hearing -- she relies on words and not actions. For her, Aryan refusing to explain and the only words he has said about hating Aditya has made her think that he is obsessed with his revenge enough to even use her. She wanted an explanation and he asked her to look at his actions. From her perspective, the only reason he wants to marry her is revenge.
In order to have a true conversation, Aryan needs to come to a point where he feels safe enough to let down his shield. Right now, there isn't much about Imlie where she makes him feel safe. He is a ride till you die type character -- meaning super loyal. He does not know whether Imlie is by his side. In a roundabout way, marriage is a way of asking her for loyalty. He is asking her to stick up for him. Till she does that in action and shows that she is choosing him first over the Tripathy family, she will never hear the words she needs to hear. He needs to feel safe.
What you have written is just just soooo deep. I think that what many of us needwd to understand Our ASR being so pighead at the moment like a clam not letting any of his real feeling out. You are right he will not hear the words she needs until he feels that she is really with him. For now He is pushing and pushing so that she fight for herself.

It's so weird watching this show these days. I feel for Imlie most of the time but I can never seem to hate Aryan (even if I disagree with a lot of his choices these days).
Imlie is ghadi no.1 for thinking Aryan would keep the pen drive at such a simple location...or to even think Aryan would readily tell her where they were. No wonder Malini and Anu always took advantage of how naive she was.
Even at 19 people have a little bit of a brain ok? She is acting like a child...but still loved their initial entry.
As numerous topics have been posted regarding Aryans character and their disappointment, I won't go into the details of whats already been said.
I will say that I do love the new music they are playing with these two gochus. Super beautiful and versatile as well. I can see them playing this for sad and even romantic moments because even when Aryan stops this wedding but Imlie ensures it takes place (mera manifestation 24/7 chaloo rheta hai ok!) she will still have a hard time believing him and repairing her trust in him. And even when she does, the pain of her previous relationship with Adi is bound to come through.
And to someone who said they wished Imlie would give a little bit of leniency to Aryan due to Arvins death, I get it and agree! But I think she is just complete fire right now and it is sooo hard for her to think about anything besides this being a forced marriage and the trauma it was with Adi repeating itself.
In the future when things calm down, she will give it it's due respect and care for Aryan in his pain. At least that is what I am wishing for as well.
just wanted to touch on the last thing you said, i think a lot of the difficulty many of us have had/have with this show (regardless of where we fall on this forced marriage track or Aryan or Imlie) is that there's zero consistency with Imlie when it comes to who she cares about? Tripathis for whatever reason have taken number one spot and stayed there, yet though she says she loves and cares for Narmada and Arpita she.......just.....does not react to Arvind at all? And of course this convo is half a moot point because the writers choose what to show based on the whims of the director/producer/star plus but even her line to him in his office after he punches the frame is "i forgot about your pain" (i didn't go back to watch, i know this is a rough approximation) because she's always forgetting about the rathores!
for me it's not even about leniency as much as just an acknowledgement of whether or not she supports aryan in his revenge plot (which she doesn't), a consistent acknowledgement that she at least is attempting to understand this family's pain? it's just unfortunate because imlie's character is so weak (i don't mean her as a person, i mean the way they've written it), she flip flops as much as the other flippers because they've never let her actually be her own real person? it's so weird.
Highlight of today's episode was ...Aryan giving reality check to imlie like how she is wasting her talent behind t circus and babusaheb ...who don't even know where to settle down👏
And tommorrow imlie going to join hands with hashtag 😔like are you serious girl ..Aryan thinks 10 steps ahead of you ...😆
Aryan is like ab chahe tsunami aah jaye ...shadi toh imlie se hi karunga😆
Hell yeah 😅 she is going to kill her and smart bride planning to join hands with her we need to cleanse our eyes 😕
.
She went with big knife to kill a bride😔
I honestly don't think 90% of this is Aryan's fault.
1) It's not Imlie's job to stop Aryan from destroying himself in revenge.
2) It's not Imlie's job to save the Tripathis or Aditya.
So if Imlie spent even ONE SECOND actually listening to what Aryan tells her (like today's speech where he basically says, 'babe, you can do anything you want.') she'd realize the way out of this wedding would just be to tell aryan, "I'm choosing myself, f the tripathis, f aditya, and f you." Even if she wanted to LIE to aryan and pretend she really meant all that, that would convince him and it would be a smarter way for Imlie to get out of this wedding than what she's doing right now.
I really think the story would make a lot more sense for the viewers if Aryan were just a black character right now, where he really is marrying Imlie for revenge (like Arnav married Khushi because he thought she was having an affair with his sister's husband). Basically, Aryan forgets for a bit, all the love and feels he has for Imlie, and he's so blinded by revenge, he forces Imlie to marry him. That would make more sense to viewers, because right now, Aryan lovers are furious at the fact that 1) the writers are making Aryan out to be a bad guy 2) making Aryan misunderstood and sad because of Imlie -- so if he were just a bad dude going through personal crap right now, it would be easier to digest this wedding. Because, let's be honest, the only reason I sympathize with Imlie right now is that she is 100% right on one thing: Aryan has no right to force anyone to do anything, especially not a woman. and even if she knew the real reason Aryan was doing this, she would say the same thing: she'd say, "you have no right to tell me what's important and what's not in my life. if i'm making a mistake, you don't get to derail my life to stop me from making that mistake."
idk man, i love both of them, even though i'm more angry with Imlie right now than I am with Aryan.

this is SO ON POINT.
Aryan really only understands actions, his training professionally, his personal experiences, and his trauma - they all are proof that he only cares what a person does, he dgaf what they say or don't say
Imlie has NEVER understood anyone's actions, because she was raised by a mother and naani who were willing and able to say anything and everything on their minds. So Imlie grew up saying what she thought all the time -- see the really funny Imlie for the first 100 or so episodes we had when she first showed up in Delhi, and how she never could figure out how Aditya's actions/inactions reflected his love for her.
This is definitely the core difference between the two of them.
I think the other core difference is that Imlie thinks her self-respect is tied up with the respect of her family, and those she sees as family. But Aryan is truly an individual to his core. Sure, he will die for his family, but he never, esp. when he knows Narmada or Arpita are wrong, would let his family create any self-doubt in him. That's because he has amazing family who would never do that, but if they ever did, he wouldn't tolerate it. He also never lets his family talk him into anything he's seriously not willing to do: Narmada wanting him married off in the first dozen or so episodes with him, Arpita wanting him to be nicer to Imlie, etc. He respects his family's wishes, but he doesn't put his wishes below theirs, he only makes sacrifices that don't insult his self-respect.
While Imlie sees any and all sacrifices she makes for her family/loved ones as examples of her self-respect.
