I think the answer to 2) may be that:

a) Priya expects very little so she didn't expect a gift; b) she was reluctant to presume it was for her; and c) if, as someone has said, things are awkward between them, it may be an unconscious attempt to be what she's expected to be--khadoos, ungracious, and therefore 'normal'. (Responding from BTS, but that's what I felt.)

As for 3), I'm sure someone as clued in as you knows the answer-- the convenient plot device by which amnesia or dementia strikes whoever can fix a problem by just speaking up. This includes the leads.
