I didn’t go through the entire thread but what according to you would be a convincing argument that one could proffer “to justify the invasion of a sovereign country and force a regime change”?

In reality there are only two types of countries in this world now: those with nukes and those who get bullied/invaded. Justifications are never important in the present; our future (assuming we have a future) may judge the current events but then too you very well will find people positioned on either side of such a debate. Depending on how much time passes by, it would be as interesting or as boring as discussing a Alexander or a Ashoka or a Napolean.

How will this ban of Russian banks from SWIFT affect India? Should we be more concerned as these are pretty hard sanctions. This will affect Russian economy drastically and has potential to create chaos internally. Chaotic Russia is dangerous for entire world.

Not just India but this affects all countries, one way or another. In some cases economies will shrink and the whole of GDP would take a hit.

It looks like India has implemented alternative solutions in the past to circumvent SWIFT when dealing with Iran after they imposed similar restrictions on Iranian banks; Iranian banks had to open accounts with UCO bank in Kolkata as well as with a few Indian banks that have a minor global presence.

Some of these systems, like SWIFT, claim to be neutral entities but still have to answer to their masters, in this case EU.

Of course it should be concerning to one and all that monies legally owned by individuals or organizations or countries could still be seized and/or restricted for whatever reasons. It especially hurts when "democracies" like Canada do it to their own citizens.

@Chaotic Russia is dangerous for entire world: 😊 stating the obvious?

Fully agree with this. I am not in favor of controlling someone money. It might start with Russia but will soon become tool for Politicians to curb opposition, put illegal sanctions on any country etc. There had been reports of freezing bank accounts or Nigerian protesters few years ago, but never thought Canada would do it. At the end if you don't control your money, it is not freedom.

World is obviously moving towards alternate financial system where these banks dont have power to cut you off from your own money and many have already claimed Bitcoin/ETH would be used for this. Russia-China never wanted USD to be world reserve either and now they will use another neutral currency.

Does anyone know what to make out of Zelensky? He was an actor/comedian not so long ago and clearly even now he is a showman, which is clouding my judgment about him! Is he the war hero and the brave, principled leader that all of the western media is portraying him to be or is it just braggadocio, him putting on an award winning performance designed to impress the global audience? Obviously, Ukrainians are putting up a splendid fight so props to them and obviously they have the backing of NATO but how much of this guy's bring-it-on bravado is real and how much of it is fake? Or, is it unimportant in the grander scheme of things?

What I do have a problem with is the west's holier-than-thou approach in all things war. How quickly they paint themselves as "the good guys" and how easily they forget the war crimes in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria to name a few nations, is astounding! It's one thing to help a nation that's under attack and another to increase the decibel levels of the drumbeats of war with irresponsible rhetoric, especially on social media. If you want to convey something to Putin, do it using the proper channels, not via media or worse on social media!

It's impossible to tell if Putin is bluffing with his nuclear threats but if he is cornered and if he is losing face in the eyes of the world, I have no doubt that he is capable of taking actions that would prove catastrophic to the entire world, his country included. They have super EMP weapons which can melt nuclear reactors, shutdown power grids, shutdown transportation and financial systems, and heck shutdown even the internet! How's that for economic superiority? How's that for tweeting?!

As of now nobody's toning it down and if some of these elected officials and career bureaucrats heavily influenced by Hollywood and by visions of glory continue their belligerent actions, this is not going to end well for anybody. Somebody's got to be the adult in the room and sure as hell it isn't going to be Putin.

Just a few random thoughts.

Zelensky always used connects himself with Russian identity and is born in Eastern Ukraine so everyone thought he will be Russia's puppet. In fact his entire election campaign money came from a businessman who is very pro Russia. The same businessman owns a channel where Zelensky's show was airing at the time. US had also banned this buisinessman. But still Zelensky denied to follow Russia and first thing he did was to go after corrupt people. When Trump was POTUS, he asked Zelensky to investigate Biden which Zelensky refused and Trump then canclled his visit of Ukraine. This meetign was very important for Zelensky adn Ukraine and still he did not listen to Trump. This all tells me that Zelensky does have some principles which he is fighting for. I do appreciate his leadership as he definitely knows how to be a showman. In such times, these things are also important.

Having said that, I do feel Western media, social media is exaggerating him a lot. It is definitely some propoganda on West side and this propoganda war is won by West. NATO obviosuly has role to play and their financial sanctions are clear indication that they are fighting equal level of war. It is just that they are using economic, information war instead of militiary. And we all know in today's world it is equally important.

Today Russian foreign minister said world war 3 will have nuclear weapons which is really alarming. But at the same time, there is 2nd round of talk going on which suggest Putin does want to solve the issue but arm twist Ukraine in agreeing on his conditions. Thus nuclear weapon threat comes everytime before the talk.

He sounds knowledgeable. I do see a lot of parallels between that epic and our everyday lives.

Unfortunately, there's no Lord Krishna now to tell us on which side is Dharma. Things aren't as black and white as back then. Also, more importantly, I don't know how those epics justified Rajasuya yagna or Ashwamedha yagna. How exactly are they different from what Putin is trying to do here? Even Lord Rama did those yagnas.

Perhaps it's best not to invoke (flawed) mythological stories then.
