America, my friend, is on the other side of the world. America actually has oil reserves it can release. America can also unfreeze drilling in a matter of minutes and supply itself with oil. Not to mention the largest natural gas reserves in the world. America also has the only army in the world which can defeat Russia (though I sincerely hope we don't go there).
I am just amazed at the short-sightedness of these posts crowing about Indian power and how India should maintain neutrality as though it can afford to. Bottomline is it can't. Because places like India will be the most at risk. Hope to God the people in charge have more understanding of global markets than the peeps on this thread.
But some of y'all seem to understand it and STILL be ready for India to take hits from this war only to see the West suffer a fraction of what India would suffer. I can only imagine you don't believe you personally will lose your job or lack for food and medicine and electricity. That's where this war is taking us. And the 80% of India that still lives in poverty will be the ones to suffer. Not the keyboard experts.
ETA: not being neutral doesn't mean sending troops. It means speaking out forcefully against this war. It means actually trying to stop this madness. Russia should see it's friendless. They should have no market to sell their oil.
Yes, India would be affected but do you understand how much India would be affected if it takes West side against Russia? It is always a trade off between pros and cons. US and West are on other side of the world but India has entire Asia and its own neighbors to deal with. If China attacks India in future, we cant afford to lose Russia from our side. Russia is already close to China. We need to maintain Russia's stake on the table. If war situation comes between Pak-China-India, Russia atleast should remain neutral and not favour them. Russia is not just random country from which we buy equipments, there are many joint ventures. The entire Brahmos project is the cooperation of two countries. What about the jobs loss, economy and security concerns that arises from this? Condemning Russia at this point doesnt serve any good for India. And which study are you using to claim 80% of India is poor?
The west is doing zilch for Ukraine. Whatever sanctions they have annoucned till now are a big joke and just condemning on news is not going to do anything to the war. This would be good only for emotions just like jumlas Modi uses in domestic politics. They keep talking about SWIFT ban but noone has dared to do it yet. Becaue they also know they can not win against Russia now. Russia is clear winner and in few days it will make Europe and US to agree on Minsk agreements on his conditions. Ukraine will never be NATO alliance and West wont do anything.
At this stage of war, India can afford to be neutral and not speak against Russia. But if war escalates from here it would be difficult for India. These things are not stagnant. They evolve with the situation. People in charge do know better and thats why they are not soeaking anything against Russia in the news and had one on one talk. But other than that India doesnt really have power to speak against Russia.
