Tabhi Sampada ek magenta gown pehne Atharv ki baahon me baanh daale vahin aa gayi, "Are nahi nahi Anjali. Mera pati Malhar nahi, Atharv hai. Vo kya hai na, Malhar me vo charm aur class hai kahaan jo Atharv me hai?" Sampada fiddled with Atharva's diamond studded wristwatch.

"Magar Sampada tum aur Malhar to ek doosre se..."

"Time sab kucch badal deta hai, darling," Sampada said watching Malhar furtively, "Jab sab badal gaya to maine bhi khud ko badal diya. Abhi hi dekh lo mujhe aur Malhar ko. Koi match hai hamara. Malhar jaise boring old fashioned aadmi ke liye to koi behenji..." And then Sampada started being lovey dovey with Atharva.

"Malhar, tum yahaan ho?" Everyone turned at the voice. Kalyani was standing there in a red bodycon with her hair in curls and big hoops in ears. Her scarlet lipstick made her look more alluring.

Without giving the curious gaze of all men and women any attention, Kalyani came straight to Malhar and kissed him on his cheeks. Malhar was stunned.

"Tumhe pata hai na sweetheart, tumhe main ek pal bhi na dekhoon, to everything feels so dull," Kalyani said, "Arre yahaan to tumhari ex bhi hai? Hi Sampada. "Kalyani!" Sampada was furious.

"Chalo na baby, let's dance," Kalyani said, "I'm feeling so bored looking at SamTharv's sade huye faces."

"Kalyani, ye sab kya hai?" Malhar said, softly. But when Kalyani didn't listen to him, he shouted, "Kalyani!"

Kalyani turned back. Why hadn't he noticed before that Kalyani's eyes had the same innocence and grace like a gazelle's? And her lips...they were just like a siren's. Malhar slided a lock of hair from Kalyani's face and touched her cheek. Kalyani's skin burned with that touch. Then Malhar kissed her on the eyelids.

It was only when he heard the jeering of his college mates, Malhar got out of the trance. Mortified at what he had done, he stormed out of the room.
