I grew up in India too and remember having my school closed multiple times because of the communal riots. India was no Utopia but the difference is that the Majority used to not question things when the Governments used minority appeasement tactics. BJP never had a chance while Congress just sat on its past laurels while keeping the Minority vote banks happy. But water went so above the head that the majority had to finally let go of the Congress and choose BJP in the hope that they will finally make some difference. It’s another thing that they have proven to be no less losers than the Congress. :(

What’s more worrying is that the Congress has still not learned their lessons and still indulging in the same kind of shitty politics instead of learning from their mistakes and focussing on building a strong leadership. As long as they don’t get rid of the so called Gandhis, India will remain in the clutches of BJP!

Yes, problems did start from independence. Everyone else was mandated to be monogamous, but constitution allowed 4 wives for Muslim men. Triple talaaq was legal. Many other things.

The Congress did this to keep Indian Muslims happy.

And *I* am old enough to remember the Bombay riots and so on and so forth. So things weren't as hunky dory as a child would imagine. India was no utopia at the time which was ruined by BJP.

I don't agree with an apartheid constitution and Hindu rashtra. But secularism should include all people.

Except for maybe 2 or 3 politicians I have ZERO respect for these politicians...but like I said..religion was never made the ground of running elections by any other party the way this one is doing...I mean there were 60-70 years in between and no one else cashed on it and this party does in the last 7 years.....no country is perfect...neither is India.....Trump tried to do the same thing and was thrown out.....doesn't mean that there was no racial discrimination before Trump in USA...it just means that Trump was low enough to pick up on a sensitive issue and made it a fighting point for his election.....and BJP picked up religion...that is going as low as it gets.....blaming the Independence or dead politicians from 70 years back is ridiculous and just saving face because we all know that there is actually no excuse for bigotry..

Hyundai India and Hyundai Pakistan are not different entities just because they deal with operations in two different countries because the Parent company Hyundai is one and the same.

Kashmir is a very sensitive issue and Hyundai should’ve known better before taking sides. And if they really believed what they said, then why did the remove those tweets like bheegi billis. Anyways, hope they get taught a lesson for taking sides. Hope they are satisfied with the business they get from Pakistan at the cost of getting kicked in their butts by the Indians.

So basically no difference in #buycutt idiots from both sides…

Ermmm. What exactly do you mean? If a company is supporting terrorism so openly (from the India POV), why should one buy products from them?

This is where you are wrong. From the time of independence, religion was a major part of Indian politics. Constantly assuring the Muslim community they will have special laws, constantly assuring special categories in jobs, etc. etc. Congress did this to maintain their hold on power. BJP took advantage of it, and they did their hatred tactics better than the rest.

Trump started with immigration as issue. Everyone knows it's an issue. Millions of people coming across the border is simply not sustainable. Dems and other Repubs ignored it and actually were using the immigrants as cheap labor.

People - Indian or American - are generally not evil, BI. Sometimes they do desperate things like vote for bigotry because no one else seems to take their concerns seriously.

Well that would be scary and sad....elections are always about choosing the lesser of the 2 evils....Do you think Joe Biden is an amazing President?? Not even close....but Americans chose the lesser of the 2 evils and they chose him over Trump....just one term was enough....any other party would be better than the current one.....religious bigotry is at an all time high...choose your poison wisely....because the image of India is going down very fast.....the reason that India is/was respected more among SIMILAR countries is because of our SECULAR image...we lose that ...we lose a lot...

@BI,

Blaming dead politicians is not a solution, but solution starts with recognizing the root cause.

It's like saying all the problems among the African-American community is because of fatherlessness and gangster culture. I mean, how can any serious person ignore the impact of slavery? Civil Rights Act passed in the mid 60s. By the logic applied to India, slavery should be dismissed as a factor.

and how long do you propose for this blame game to go on and be taken advantage of?? So the bigots can keep of encouraging hatred and getting excused because (THEY) think that something was not done right 70 years back?? are you kidding me??

No. But sensible people need to understand what went wrong, when, and where, and take corrective action. It's India's misfortune that there seem to be no sensible people.
