Her character does evolve - as does Aditya’s. It’s annoying to see how abla naari and naive she is in the beginning but she’s the counterpart to Aditya’s brashness and anger. The whole arc is their co-evolution from opposite directions. It does get better - but take it with the caveat that I like JW and her acting (and honestly I could watch Adiya read the phone book together 😆)
In my opinion, between the two leads, Zoya actually was the more mature and reasonable one.
Her constant breaking out into tears and timidness at the beginning of the show was because she was supposed to be a person who’s never even spoken to anyone in a loud voice, let alone have a conflict with anyone. But ever since Yash’s death, she’d only been getting screamed at, chased out, being blamed for his death, getting zero support from any of her loved ones, and top of everything, she was learning new things about her husband (whom she was madly in love) that she never even knew before. The cherry on top of this cake, was a man she doesn’t even know intimidating and forcing her to accept that her husband was cheating on her. Even in reality (and it actually happens in reality), this would be extremely daunting for anyone, let alone someone of her soft and gentle character.
People keep bashing her for constantly defending Yash and refusing to accept that he had an affair with Pooja. Consider this though. The “they were having an affair” “assumption” at the beginning started because they saw them merely holding hands. Rationally speaking, there could be a number of other explanations for such an occurrence, especially so in the circumstances that they were found holding hands (an accident). She wasn’t blindly defending Yash. She was defending him until she had solid proof that he did BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT, have an affair with Pooja. The reason being that (which should rightfully apply in real life too, if you love someone truly), when you truly love someone and they’re not around to give their side to a story, you have to instinctually use your own intimate knowledge and trust of that person to judge the situation. Atleast until proven otherwise. In reality, it would be quite immature and unreasonable to be suspicious of your partner over every little thing you see without giving them the opportunity to clarify it first. And up until the point Arjun tells her the divorce papers were indeed legit, she had absolutely no reason to suspect Yash’s fidelity and love for her. Because even on the day he was leaving with Pooja, he told Zoya that he loved her no matter what happens.
Also if you think about it, almost immediately upon Yash’s death, Zoya took over his company, managed to convince the shareholders, successfully organised an entire wedding on her own (and that too, despite all of Aditya and Mahi’s interferences). And she managed to get all of these done even though she’s supposed to be this woman who’ll “bikhar jayegi agar apni zindagi ki problems bataon”, according to Yash. Yash never really gave her the benefit of the doubt, to begin with. Even Aditya himself acknowledged that she was more capable than he had assumed and that he had underestimated her.
I think it takes a certain maturity to understand the story and, Zoya’s character and her actions in the show. Provided Zoya did do a few unreasonable things, like publicly slapping Arshad. That was uncalled for. She could have told him off in words.
And and, I’d join you in watching them reading that phone book! 🙋🏽♀️💯
