This is terrible and cheap representation of people from Bengal.
Anushka is miscast. Period. She does not look or sound like Jhulan Goswami at all. Her accent is fake and annoying.
She is also too fair in this one whereas Jhulan is dark skinned.
Bollywood deserves every bit of brickbats it gets for its misrepresenting ethnicities beyond Hindi belt.
This is a thumbs down and also tiring to see same old biopics on cricketers now. Mitali Raj biopic is also in pipeline. This bhedchaal will only end up in flops.

@bold: Exactly, infact they don't even represent the Hindi belt properly (God knows I cringe so hard whenever they represent all the UP-Bihar folks with their definition of a Bhojpuri accent). It's mostly the Punjab-Delhi belt which still gets relatable representation(apart from the usual stereotypes)
This is an OTT release, could Anushka not find an actress who could do justice?
Even if we forget how she is a complete misfit in terms of looks, the issue that Anushka still acts like Shruti of BBB. The template is fixed in her case, no matter what her character's name/identity is.
Vidya in DP, looked and acted like Silk Smitha, that's how a biopic is supposed to be.
Same with Kangu as Datto in TWMR, she didn't just look the part. She got the Haryanvi accent and behaviour right to the T.
Deepu and now Anushka on the other hand *sighs*
Bollywood is caricaturish and crap in showing Punjabis as well. The way they speak Punjabi is laboured and often peppered with Hindi.
They show same rural areas or huge mansions or own lands which is not how every Punjabi lives. Not everyone has their own haveli, lands and fields in Punjab as Bollywood shows.
Nor does everyone break into bhangra at drop of a hat.
I agree with you on portrayal of Hindi belt as well. I sometimes felt UP and Bihar characters were stereotyped as just rustic, prone to crime villagers. And Bollywood never got difference in style of speaking in Bihar and UP. Biharis and UPites speak differently.
I always felt Anushka and her so called acting talent were overrated. She is same in every film. I never found her different. You are right about her repeating her BBB style everywhere.
I have no idea how she managed to get such big films, projects with biggest banners and stars. I feel she was never worth it.
I bet she would be forgotten if she did not marry Virat Kohli.

yess being a punjabi i have felt offended most of the times..but i have to say diljith and kareena nailed the punjabi accent in Udta Punjab..that was very real and not how they mostly potray punjabis as
This is just so awful it’s comical. What happened to Tripti Dimri taking over the role?
Kareena was good in Udta Punjab. Surprised me.
Others are caricaturish and OTT.
I am sorry if it offends fans but I think Kajol in K3G, Hema and SRK in Veer Zaara, Farida and Amrish in DDLJ, Aamir in RDB, Kunal Kapoor in Bachna ae Haseeno, Ajay in Son of Sardar, Salman in Heroes, Antim, Saif in LAK etc all failed to get Punjabi correctly.
Akshay, Rishi, Anil and Sanjay Dutt are also good whenever they speak Punjabi.
Diljit is a Punjabi actor and singer so he was bound to be good.
Kirron Kher is most authentic when she speaks and plays Punjabi. Late Om Puri, Pran were also spot on whenever they spoke Punjabi.
No Bengali on the forum can complain. 😆
When Anu did horrible Gujju accent in JHMS then resident SRK fans told me that BW is stereotypical. Pallavi madame said this is how it’s done in BW movie. And that I am a hater.
Te lo ab Anu aai hai Bengali accent ka kachra karne 🤣
Why they didn't hire a Bengali actress instead 😵
