Well then u will be surprised to know that some people think the govt provided support to SRK in securing bail for his son..the advocate was the same who fought a case on behalf of Modi..the most high profile case.

His son got bail only after the advocate came on board

Theatres were attacked in 2001 also for showing interfaith couple in Gadar.

Atleast now we have nothing of that sort and only shitty columns online or spammy IT cells and trolls.

It is laughable how Akshay and Rohit are labeled anti Hindu or anti Muslim depending on films they do.

Next we should have column in NYT to describe Akki and Rohit as agents to destroy all religions due to showing villains of different religions in their films.

I am glad Subhash Ghai did not release Karz and Ram Lakhan in this era or else he would be accused of having Christian sounding names like Sir John and Sir Judah for his villains and hence- communal, anti Christian, anti minorities, agent of Hindu nationalism and whatnot.

I can once understand if someone like Kangana is labelled a hater (which she indeed is). But Rohit Shetty is not a bigot. Akshay is close to BJP but not a hate monger.

Fair point but I would say we haven't had any real controversial movies in the last few years anyway. Like why would people attack theaters for movies like this or Tanhaj? Or the huge number of patriotic movies? Not saying they are all bad but Bollywood is as safe as it gets right now and panders to the BJP. In terms of Hindu relations with Muslims or Christians I would say things are tense now and not in a good place (christians have been attacked a lot in the last month because of christmas).

Rohit Shetty and Akshay just care about money, I don't think most of Bollywood is right wing or bigoted but they follow what's popular

That's probably when it became clear they didn't have anything. This witch hunt specifically targeted SRK because he is a Muslim with a known history of controversial (the right would say Anti Indian/Hindu) comments. It was based on nothing and yet was the nr.1 story for quite some time, all done to taint his name further

Yeah I don't doubt that the majority is tolerant but the government isn't and they are interested in promoting division & sadly a lot of Hindus believe the propaganda. I mean you only need to take one look at Twitter or reddit and see the number of bhakts who do nothing but hate on Muslims 24/7 or the BJP politicians who also spread hate.

PK and OMG happened 8-10 years ago, different time. Nowadays movies like Sooryavanshi are the ones who are popular and PK and OMG would be called anti indian

Whether they got any useful info from him or not is not the point of discussion..

But assuming they didn't have anything... why would u help someone if u r so interested in hounding them..u would rather want the hounding to continue and take its natural course..

There is no doubt that there is no dearth of the bigots in the country. But they don’t belong to just one religion.

Sure but the bigots who are part of the majority religion are the bigger problem because they obviously have more power and can oppress the minorities. Well the whole thing was turning out to be embarrassment not for SRK but the people targeting him, more and more people came out in support of SRK since the whole thing was obviously a bullshit witch hunt. So it makes sense to resolve it quickly before more people get upset.

I would say that's true of bhakts or "neutral" people who deny the problematic stuff the BJP has done to this country. They just won't understand this simple thing even though its clear how divided and toxic things are now compared to even 10+ years ago.

Well I think people should be able to speak their mind, you can love your country and still criticise the problematic parts which SRK did yet he received unnecessary backlash and is still called a Pakistani agent by many bhakts

Akshay has not just been trolled.

He has been maligned through social media posts and columns in WaPo branding him an Islamophobe.

His wife also gets trolled by all 'wings' for taking benefits from both sides or couple having different ideologies.

Some papers no longer publish her columns as they did earlier.

Akshay had shooting of his film stopped by farmers also for being pro BJP and his tweet last year.

Sunny, Bobby have had their shootings disrupted for being associated with BJP. Even sets of Kangana film were attacked last year by members of an opposition party in an other state.

Bobby is a funny case who gets hate for his family being in BJP and also gets hate for doing Aashram which is accused of being anti Hindu. 🤣

Kangana also got gheroed in a non BJP state recently.

Non BJP state even put Arnab in jail. 🤣

So please do not assume only Khans are trolled.

Among Khans also, Salman and Salim Khan are labeled traitors for being pro Modi. Yet they also get trolled for being Khans anyway or get linked to underworld.

Everyone has their own time when targeted by politically motivated trolls, media, IT cells and govts.

Depends on who the ruling govt is.

No one is a saint if they have majority seats when in power.

I hate the excessive polarisation and politicization of films and arts though.

PK was called anti Hindu even then. So was OMG, Singham Returns. But they became hits and got critical acclaim.

Public watched them. Lapped them up.

Haider was called anti India but it won awards and critical acclaim.

All these films are made under BJP rule.

Trolls could not do anything. Trolls do not affect real life.

The only danger are fake news peddlers who incite violence or father mobs via Whatsapp.

SRK has not made controversial remarks against govt. Aamir, Naseer, Kiran, Bhatts, Swara have spoken far more. Aamir even criticised 2002 pogroms and donated for orphans of that pogrom.

SRK never openly criticised right wing or anyone else the way Aamir blasted BJP in 2006 also when his films were banned in Gujarat for supporting NBA.

SRK is targeted only because he is closest to Gandhis and INC among all Khans and Shahs and his son is more visible in media compared to other star kids. Religion is not the only reason he was targeted.
