This looks more like a disaster on the budgetary allocation side. Maybe one of those cases KJo keeps referring to where actors are delusional for quoting nonsensical numbers for compensation.

According to the budget article the cricketers were each paid between 3-7 cr (so probably 45-55cr) and 60cr interest because of the covid release delays. 155-165cr though is still a sizable production amount.

The producers feel there is no way they can recover their production costs.

"This is an expensive film where the costs went into financial arrangements behind the scenes, like hiring the Lord's cricket ground in London to shoot the final match etc," says the producer.

"Unlike Baahubali or Devdas, the budget doesn't show on screen in '83."

Omicron scare is growing and more films around this time are likely to fail.

That said, it seems the film has no solid music or story and probably no one wants to watch a docu drama on 1983 world cup or probably they did not like the cast or performances or story was not engaging enough.

Or perhaps people want more light hearted stuff like Sooryavanshi and did not want to watch 83 which has no masala, heroines or item numbers.

More than the cast I feel sad for 1983 cricketers who did look forward to the film and liked it, observed its shooting and gave tips to actors playing their role. They really seemed to have high hopes that new generation will like a film based on their story but it must have saddened them to see such lack of interest in 1983 WC story. Even the promotional event with team of the 1983 WC winners on Aaj Tak and India Today got less TRPs. I guess people have moved on and 80s generation is not interested to go to theatres anyway.

Sad for actors and cricketers whose hard work did not yield result they expected. Ammy Virk was hoping to have successful debut in Bollywood like Diljit had in Udta Punjab but it seems he had no impact like Diljit had.

It's a sports biopic...it's the same story over and over again. It's really not shocking that it's not doing well

Also after two years of sitting home and going through one of the worst phases of life, I'm pretty sure most people are looking for something fun and massy to spend their money on, maybe that's why a Sooryavanshi or Spiderman worked and this didn't.

I thought distributors will be losing money if it flops badly. Interesting that it says even producers won't recover the cost.

To be honest sports dramas are boring.

This is why they fail or succeed less.

Lagaan succeeded as it became about fighting British rulers and get tax exemption. It was never about cricket primarily.

CDI became about a tainted coach trying to prove detractors wrong and win back lost respect.

No one watches pure sports films.

I do not remember Saina Nehwal biopic doing well. Nor I think Mithali Raj biopic will do well.

A film on 2011 WC will not work either as people have seen it all anyway and why will anyone watch film if they saw the real deal.

In past even JJWS flopped though it is considered a cult classic now.

Films on sports hardly strike chord with audience as no one is interested in sports. Even Dangal had to be made more about a father trying to fulfil his own broken dreams through daughter and it was not technically focused much on wrestling.

You have to add lot of emotion to make a sports film work. Film focused solely on sport itself or a real life match is like a documentary which not many want to watch.

So people still believe BOI( Box Office Idiots)....galti se sudhar mat jaana tumlog...🤣🤣
