I tried watching Lal Kaptaan...i really wanted to watch because of the amazing art direction, cinematography and there seemed to be a story of some kind. But I couldn't because of Saif's pathetic acting. And I want to know if anyone can actually make out a single word of what he's saying in the film. He can only do Hum Tum kind of roles...same he did in Kal Ho Ya Na Ho for which his mom awarded him Best Actor National Award.

Try some regional cinema. The only way AB Sr is the best is if you limit the sector to Bollywood.

I don't know about anti Saif talk. I wrote what I felt. I haven't watched Tanhaji or Sacred Games. But i have seen Being Cyrus and I didn't find his acting anything special. Just run of the mill. It's more the script that was good. And Omkara is way overhyped. Yes he was ok in it but Iago's role is like a dream role for any actor. Again the character is too good and the actor did just passable work. Imagine if Irfan Khan had got that role!

There are several parts to a screen performance. One is no question writing. No actor can elevate a bad script to good. But the same way, no script can help an average actor seem good. Cinema is after all a visual medium.

Generally speaking yes whatever you say is true. But individually many other factors come into play. Because oftentimes the individual uses and manipulates whatever resources they have at their disposal to elevate their own status. Then perceptions trump absolutes. Of course the absolutes are arrived at through stacking relatives against each other.

Pankaj Tripathi, RKR, Nawaz even guy who played vilan in Mardani 2 and many more Outsiders are better than these two.

There are plenty of better actors if you were to bring just their "acting" abilities into focus while blurring everything else.

But you can't dissociate someone's subjective "acting" abilities from the overall value they bring to movies onscreen.

People sell for all sorts of reasons. I don't think I need to even mention why Hrithik is considered a top actor/performer of his time.

I find Saif charming onscreen too. My favorite performances of him so far are Main Khiladi Tu Anari, DCH, Ek Hasina Thi, KHNH, Hum Tum, and a bunch of others I can't remember at the moment. Can you imagine Main Khiladi Tu Anari without Saif? Just how boring that movie woulda been? His comic timing and bromance with Akshay is the best part about it.

Anyways, my point is that you can be the next Al Pacino in town but people can still reject you if they don't like you. So an actor's job, first and foremost, is to make sure people are hooked to their performances, regardless of where in the spectrum their acting skills land. Hrithik and Saif have been successful there so the rest fall in place.
