Nepotism has been there in industry for ages. Mostly relatives or friends of stars, singers, writers, filmmakers, producers worked together and often formed a monopoly (Mangeshkar family in music is example of monopoly).
But earlier there was not that level of hate, anger, backlash against nepotism and star kids the way there is since recent years.
Some may feel Kangana started it. But I have been seeing people mock Abhishek Bachchan for last 2 decades saying he is in industry due to his parents, he got a wife like Ash because he is son of Amitabh Bachchan who is the biggest icon, he keeps getting work, awards, media attention and favourable reviews from critics, endorsements because of his illustrious family. The 'he is what he is due to his family' thing has been said the most about Abhishek Bachchan. The one time when he got most backlash as a star kid was when he was given UP govt's highest youth award called Yash Bharti Sammaan from SP govt around mid 2000s and it was widely believed he got it because he is son of Amitabh Bachchan and his mom Jaya Bachchan is an MP from SP (ruling Samajwadi party). Otherwise he did not deserve state govt's highest award for young achievers.
He has often been on talk shows in India and abroad with his family, he got many ads with his family as well (Versa car ad with his dad, Lux and Prestige cooker ads with his wife).
Unlike Saif he never gave any solo hits even at some later point in his career. And is treated like a sidekick to his dad in Bunty aur Babli also where Ash is shown more attention to Amitabh than Abhishek.
All star kids improved their stature some day or bowed out of acting but Abhishek continued to get work with top banners and stars, even got National Bingo Night reality show (despite not having personality to pull off a game show host act and that show also flopped), web series etc.
Abhishek has never worked on his fitness either nor got a makeover or reinvented himself the way Saif did post 2001.
Are repeated chances given to Abhishek Bachchan despite consistent flops and rejection from audience, the reason why people mock star kids so much and feel star kids keep getting opportunities no matter what? The way he mostly appeared with his family in talk shows, magazine covers, ads or got awards like UP state govt award when his mom's party was in power, add to notion that star kids get undue advantage, undeserved awards due to their family?
Do star kids and nepotism get more hate when flop ones also keep getting work somewhere and their superstar moms, dads, spouse appear with them everywhere? Hema Malini also gets Esha in ads with her, promoted her book, performs on stage with her or got her reality shows.
Do superstars promoting their flop star kids in every medium incite more backlash?
