I don't think this would alienate his true friends from him. People disagree with friends, if the bond is real, both parties understand and agree to meet mid way.
Umar wasn't wrong in talking to Tejasswi about an action of hers that was unsettling to him, had he kept mum and bottled it up, then it'd be an issue. I'm certain had the roles been reversed, Tejasswi herself would have objected to Umar's choice of words. He at least had the decency to let his friend know in private that an action of hers has hurt him.
I don't think either of them is juvenile enough to break their friendship over something as petty as a minor disagreement.
