my idea of cinema!

There are many avenues into this 'mega-career' (career – a term I have come to hate when associated with cinema, how can you demean pure passion by calling it a job?) which is actually micro in its true aspect. The aim of film itself is to magnify, to make clear, dissect, destroy & rebuild. Many try to get in; thousands by the thrift try & squeeze through its gates. Crawling, scratching, many succeed, but only a few survive. Thus when I, a crawler & a scratcher myself, saw Gateway – the reality show on Sony PIX which offered a chance to be seen, selected & finally a get a breakthrough in Hollywood, I gasped. I saw an opportunity staring me in the face, calling out, pulling me towards itself. Before I knew it, I had submitted my entry. There I was, picturing the jury members, Anurag Basu & Rajat Kapoor pondering over my film. Standing far away, next to the enigmatic light of the projector stood Ashok Amrtiraj, he had a smile on his face. I was in… & then I woke up. Poof! No call, no jury, no pondering, no nothing. Just destiny… & Cinema!

I have not given up hope, this is not what I have learned from film. When the reel is over, it is rewound again, the magic begins again. I shall try again. Maybe it isn't my time as yet. I shall wait, I shall watch, I shall learn. Pedro Almodovar – The famous Spanish director & script writer said, "I was born at a bad time for Spain, but a really good one for cinema." And my good time will come too. And it will be through Gateway I'm sure. Maybe not this time but the next. I wanted to dismiss it as a run of the mill reality show, but I simply cannot. I try, but it calls me back again. Because like me, the show too has Cinema in its veins. So here you are. And here I am. You keep reading, while I keep telling you my story. And who knows, destiny is binding the 3 of us, you, me & film… together.
