chapter 12

Obviously Sameera would not be happy with Geet's presence. Maan does not care though.

His words were condescending and Geet did not need to hear them.

Chapter 12

Whoa what was that....? He really don't know how to talk or is he humiliating her by talking down on her.... Or was it Geet who is misunderstanding him.... But I must say Samera was too rude to Geet... Actually she could just be straight forward with her disliking towards her presence in the dinner and it's all Maan's fault to force her to have dinner with him when he has guest over.... He must have an idea that Sam is being salty towards Geet from the very beginning for no reason. And still he also has the galls to talk down on her like that... This gives more reason for Geet to run away from this place even more...and hopefully she'll have a perfect plan to escape from there too without getting caught... Do continue with your excellent job....🤗

Chapter 13

“No, you’re not interrupting anything,” Geet said anxiously to Sameera. Had Maan’s fiancee seen Geet and Maan standing so close together, his hand on her arm? The last thing Geet needed was to get on Sameera’s bad side, too.

Geet brushed past Maan and hurried down the steps, nearly tripping on the long fabric of her dress. “Thank you for the invite to dinner, but I -- I don’t feel well. Goodnight.” Sameera was just a blur as Geet raced past her and through the door from which she had come.

---

Feeling sticky from the damp dress, Geet immediately hopped into the shower when she got back to her room. While the water streamed over her, she found herself revisiting in her mind Maan’s gaze on her face, his hand on her arm. Something was bubbling up inside of her that she couldn’t identify. She pushed it down deeply and hurried out of the shower. She observed from the clock sitting on the bureau that she had been showering for a full thirty minutes, lost in her thoughts.

Geet quickly changed into leggings and an old, warm sweater, which had been laundered for her. She left the lavender dress on the bed, hoping that when it dried it would look presentable.

It wouldn’t matter anyway for her, though, since she wasn’t going to wear it ever again.

Geet grabbed her tote bag, which was sitting on top of the desk. She hadn't come here with much, so it was easy to pack her few belongings. Geet didn’t know where she was going, but she felt a sudden and urgent need to flee both the house and her own churning emotions.

“Going somewhere?”

The door to Geet’s room flew open and Maan stood at the threshold. A sheaf of paper was sticking out of the back pocket of his pants.

Did this man ever knock?

“Yes, as a matter of fact,” Geet said, mustering every ounce of bravery that she had. “I’m getting out of here. And before you even try to threaten me about leaving, you’re the one who seems annoyed at every single thing I do, and --”

“Come back upstairs and eat something before you go.”

Geet was knocked immediately off-kilter. He was going to let her leave just like that? Plus, what about the scene outside and Sameera’s palpable anger? “Doesn’t Sameera hate me now? Why would she want me eating dinner while she’s still here?”

“She’ll be fine. I explained to her that whatever she thought she saw was just a misunderstanding. Now, come back to the dining room. You’ll have to eat some time tonight, right?” Maan’s expression was unreadable, but his voice wasn’t as stern as usual.

Geet simply stared at him, wary.

Clearing his throat, Maan finally said, “Please.”

Maan saying the word “please” satisfied Geet enough to begrudgingly follow him back to the dining room. Besides, she *was* starving.

Sameera was, in fact, not seated at the table, but Geet could hear the woman’s voice floating in from another room. “Sameera must be on the phone,” said Maan with a shrug. One of Maan’s staff pulled out a chair for Geet and she sat down, hoping to hurry up and eat before Sameera came back.

Geet was dipping a breadstick into a small pool of olive oil when Maan said, “I know you want to leave tonight, but reconsider. And stay.”

Why was Maan being so polite? At least, his version of polite. It was so disconcerting that Geet almost wished he would act rude again.

“Why do you care?” Geet asked bluntly. “Didn’t I prove to you that I won’t tell the police what I saw in the alley? I could have totally spilled my guts to the officer who came by, and I didn’t, as you know. So you don’t have to worry about me saying anything if I leave. And all you do is yell at me and make me feel about an inch tall. Like in the gazebo earlier?” She bit into the bread more aggressively than was perhaps warranted.

Maan exhaled deeply before he said, “We both know you have nowhere else to go. Would you honestly be safer on the street than here?”

Geet focused her attention on a glass cabinet showcasing a full china service, not allowing herself to answer out loud. Or to herself.

“I didn’t want this life, you know,” Maan said lowly.

Geet chewed carefully, then swallowed the bread. Had she heard him correctly? “What did you say?”

“My father was a gangster through and through. Who knows how many people died at his hands. My mother tried to shield my brother and me from his activities, but how could you miss the blood on his shoes and the way people cowered from him on the street?” Maan was clearly lost in thought, his gaze pinned to a distant point above Geet’s shoulder.

“I knew I wanted to take over the business world,” Maan continued. “As soon as I was out of school, I built Khurana Shipping from the ground up. Rapidly. And I lived and breathed my business for years. Financial projections, contracts, clearances. But when my parents passed within months of each other, my father’s enemies naturally targeted his bloodline. My brother had already married. Who else was going to carry the mantle but me?”

Geet listened, entranced.

Maan slowly shifted his eyes back to her. “I asked you a question. Are you really better off homeless than staying here? Haven’t I clothed you, fed you, given you a place to rest your head at night?”

Geet looked down into her lap. What had come over Maan that he would not only press her to stay for her own well-being but that he would reveal so much of his life to her? What alternate universe was she suddenly living in?

“Plus, Neil will be so disappointed,” said Maan, taking a sip of wine. “I was thinking that you could start watching him after school. He is clearly taken with you. He misses his mother quite a bit and he’s lonely.”

Before Geet could even think of how to reply, Sameera appeared at the entrance of the dining room. Geet had forgotten all about her.

“Darling, I need a ride home,” she said sweetly to Maan, not even looking in Geet’s direction. “Take me back yourself, please?” Sameera’s voice was so pleasant that Geet wondered if she had imagined the woman’s hostility outside of the gazebo. The personality changes of both Maan and Sameera were making Geet’s head spin.

“Sure.” Maan didn’t even look back as he strode toward Sameera, leaving Geet at the table. “The chef will bring out the main course for you soon,” he called over his shoulder, as if he already knew Geet would be staying put as he had asked. *Would* she be staying? Geet sat back in her chair and pondered what to do next.

---

Thanks for continuing on with the story and have a great day. :)

Wow loved it.

Geet all set to walk off.

Maan asking her to finish her dinner and go. Is he killing her with his kindness 😄

He reveals his side of the story.

He has a point she doesn't have anywhere to go and indeed Neil will be disappointed.

Why do I feel there is no than what meets the eye 😕

Maan on the way to drop Sameera leaving a pondering Geet.

Waiting to see her decision

Thank you for the update. It was great.

I’m hoping Maan wants her to stay as he cares, otherwise he wouldn’t have shared a bit of his life with her. As for Sameera, i’m sure Maan knows how to put her in place. She is just a business deal for him.

I’m not quite sure what the paper in his pocket must be, unless he has found out she is some rich heirness and she doesn’t even know and that’s why he is being as nice as pie or hopefully she his childhood friend/love. Yes, i’m Hoping it’s that! Either way, if I was Geet it’s best to stay put within a nice house with food, clothes and a bed, even if he is a murderer.

Chapter 13

Relaxing and Considerate , Amazing Too

Geet felt its time to leave , and Maan coming to her room

just at the right moment asking her to eat and then she may leave

but while at the dinner table

Maan tells Geet that there is no need for her to leave

and yes he makes honest points she has food to eat , clothes on her back

a comfortable bed to sleep and she is safe

sure Geet too should realize these facts

Maan also tells her that Neil would be pleased if she can take care of him

everyday after school

this clearly shows that Maan does trust Geet and he also has perhaps a soft corner

for her

making her stay at his home only because she is homeless

oh yes he does have a soft spot for Geet

he also telling Geet that he was not always a gangster but after his father's death

he became one

so basically he became a gangster to protect himself and his brother together with

his business

Maan and Sameera somehow seem to just play the role of a couple but I wonder

if both are truly in love or is it just because of the business

that Maan is with Sameera
