Chapter 4 - The Kiss

"Can't you forgive me, Raavi?" Shiva asked looking at her image in the mirror.

Raavi opened her eyes as soon as his words registered in her mind.

Shiva stared down at Raavi as they came face to face, his smile was apologetic and his eyes willed for her to answer him and ease his pain. He had no clue where she disappeared to 4 years ago. He knew she would remember him because nothing can be buried forever and somewhere in his heart he wanted to believe that he was still in her heart even if she didn't care to say. He was still a part of her even if it doesn't appear now.

This man standing in front of Raavi was the one she fell in love with, the one she was running from. Shivin was the the reason of her survival but Shiva was the reason of her existence, she realised. She put her palm on his chest before Shiva could move any further. He understood that she needed time, he decided to give it to her.

---

Shiva turned over in his bed to look at the side that was not slept on.She used to sleep on that side. She used to lay there as Shiva memorized each plain and corner on her as if he had to draw her from memory. She used to be there by his side, until he pushed her away.

Being in the same house as Raavi and not sleeping in the same room felt alien to Shiva. It was his habit in the past to forget everything and held against her and watch her sleep. It was an odd, calming activity. Her sleeping beauty extinguished all his worries, all his problems, and it took away the weight of every problem he kept locked up; it made his chest lighter. He realised that sleep was far away from him. As the clock strike 6, he decided to have a run.

As soon as Shiva entered the hall, his favourite sight welcomed him and he forgot that he was going out of the house.

Raavi was standing in the kitchen holding Shivin in her arms as she tickled his belly with her nose. Shivin gurgled out little giggles tried to push her mamma away. Raavi's tinkling laughter once again filled the air as she brought the child back into her and pressed her lips his forehead.

Shiva felt something other than jealousy. It was pride. Pride in knowing that those two beautiful creatures, over flowing with joy, obviously oblivious to his presence, were his. Raavi still wore her mangalsutra, still filled her hairline with vermillion. She was his wife. The beautiful creature she held had been created by both of them, and was now unconditionally loved by the both of them. Shivin was his son. They were both his. A smile crept across his face.

It was at this instance that the desire to have them both back in his life overtook his any other desire. He wanted to be a good husband, a good father. He knew he had failed Raavi but now it was time to prove to her that he had changed. It was time to repent in order to make her relent. He wanted her, no - want was an understatement, he needed her in his life. The past years had been living hell for him. He would show her, prove to her that he had learned from his mistakes.

The milk on the stove slowly started bubbling up and Raavi turned to face the stove. That's when she saw him.

Their eyes met with a bang. The smile on his face knocked her breathless and her eyes widened in an effort to control herself.

Was he standing there the entire time or did he just come?

Frantic thoughts filled her mind. The boiling milk slowly brought her back to earth and she turned quickly to turn the stove off. Shiva took a step toward her, that dangerously attractive smile still plastered on his face, and she took a step back as if it was an instinct.

"Pappa!" Shivin squealed happily as soon as he saw Shiva. He bent towards him telling him to take him to his arms.

Raavi extended Shivin toward Shiva. Shiva smirked as he purposely caressed his fingers over her arm while reaching for Shivin. A current ran down Raavi's spine and she pulled her arm back. Taking deep breaths, she concentrated on getting milk for Shivin. His touch set her skin on fire and deep down Raavi earned to return the favour, but she shut those thoughts away as quickly as they came.

Shiva's smirk deepened as Raavi pulled away, confirming his doubts. Yes, he still had the same effect on her. He could see it in her, she felt what he was feeling, but she was refusing to acknowledge it. Getting her to accept that she still had feelings for him would be the challenge. He gave Shivin a kiss on his cheek and leaned against the counter.

"Ready!" Raavi smiled.

Shiva moved towards the dining table with Shivin in his arms. He sat on a chair and put his son on his lap while Raavi marched towards them with a glass of milk.

"Have it, baby." Raavi said and Shiva took the glass from her hand.

Raavi looked at him and he smiled at her.

"Today drink from Pappa's hand." Shiva said.

Shivin nodded happily and Raavi smiled.

----

Raavi moved out of the washroom and bumped to a strong figure. Anticipating to kiss the floor, she closed her eyes tightly but she was surprised to realise her carried midway. She opened her eyes slowly to see Shiva looking at her intently. He made her stand straight.

"Careful." he whispered.

"I can take care of myself." Raavi said. He could clearly hear the Ladaaku Mami ki behen ki beti in her voice.

She turned to leave but he grabbed her stole and her hand immediately flying to her neck.

"What are you doing, Shiva?" she asked him in her ever so polite voice.

"Just making you realise that you can't do everything by yourself." he claims while provoking.

"Oh yes I can."

"Then come and take it from my hand." he challenged.

His eyes sparkled, his lips were slightly open, he was captivated and tied willingly this time to the other end of the stole.

Not taking his eyes off her, he spooled her in, slowly, tugging her in closer with each twirl of her stole around his hand. A jolting stop right next to him, but she was unable to face him. Her heart pounding in her chest. His heart desired a palpitating heartbeat away.

He looked at her, his head lowered to the side of her face. He can hear her heartbeat as his own is mingling with hers. All his fight gone, and he is simply a man mesmerized by this enthralled beauty in front of him. Years of longing took over, his lowered eyes were blazing, his breath held silently, his lips crave but he held back. Yet, he seek her consent.

"Can you repeat what I can?" he aksed.

Her eyes, hazed to a distant spot. She hesitated yet her cheeks aflame, having his fanning breath over. She nodded quickly, determined. She needed strength before her heart gives way. He was watching with effulgent eyes knowing he will win.

He leaned in, pressing softly and kissed her on her flushed skin pressing deeply yet like a chaste caress. Consuming her with it as she closed her eyes. He didn't linger; his eyes watch her intently being intoxicated lids shut in ecstasy.

"Mamma! Pappa!" Shivin ran into the room that made Shiva and Raavi step back.

"Yes Shivin?" Shiva asked with a smile.

"Badima is calling you both." Shivin said with a smile. "We are going to cut Vansh Bhaiya's birthday cake."

"Let's go." Raavi said and she took Shivin with him while Shiva smirked as he followed them.

"Come on, Vansh. Make a wish the blow the candle." Gautam said as everyone gathered at the hall.

As he cut the cake and everyone fed each other, Shiva and Raavi bend down to kiss Shivin.

"Now you kiss each other." Shivin said and got busy in munching his cake as he played with Vansh.

"Ab toh bete ne bhi keh dia hai, Hai himmat toh kar Challenge pura." Shiva whispered.

"Challenge toh tabhi accept kar liya tha." Raavi said and glared at him.

"Kiss me then."

Raavi's heart started beating rapidly. She moved forward, but it was difficult than she thought it would be.

"Close you eyes." she ordered.

"What?" he asked confused.

"I said closed your eyes."

Shiva closed his eyes as he smirked. She was shy to kiss him but she dared to do it in front of everyone.

He opened his eyes and turned his face only to find her approaching as slow as ever. He just pulled her with a jerk. And her lips which were supposed to aim his cheeks landed on his lips. That was it. What was supposed to be a peck from her side slowly turned wet and in no time he started nibbling her lips. Both were careful enough to not get engrossed too much into the kiss. They parted unwillingly in few seconds as they realised others were around.

----------------------

Raavi looked at the stars that shined back at her in the chilling night. The kiss that she shared with Shiva was the only visual that ran in her mind all day.

As soon as Shiva reached the terrace, Raavi was a mesmerizing sight even in her normal night suit and a red shawl looking towards the sky. Shiva could only stare at her, bemused.

As if attracted like a magnet, he approached towards her and hugged her close to him, from behind. Raavi closed her eyes in reflection and breathed out. His touch still affected her the same way. Soon she realised that he had swept her off her feet, like the prince of her dreams, and moved towards his bedroom as she kept looking into his eyes, deeply. He put her on the bed and lied down beside her. She hadn't refused, letting him overtake her senses, until her natural shyness came over and her eyes got closed.

"Shiva.."

"Raavi... I love you." he said gripping her tight and putting his head on her chest.

A whole possessiveness shown in the gripped shoulders. She was stunned. She knew he loved her, she always did.

And Shiva knew it was now enough of the upsets and fight but he never had the courage to leave her at any moment.

"I don't need anything anymore Raavi...I just want you and only you beside me, with me."

Even though she tried so much she couldn't stay away from him either. She wanted to throw the blanket of fears of any doubt about him and his love. She knew that her heart was yearning for his embrace.

"My heart didn't listen to me. Even though I didn't want to love you, but I do." she confessed. "I always have."

Shiva smiled and tried to uncover her shawl but Raavi got up from the bed.

"Shiva..Mainn..."

"Kya hua, Raavi?" he asked in a polite tone. "Pati hoon main tera."

"Yaad hai tujhe?" Raavi asked folding her arms near her chest. "Mujhe laga jis din mujhpar shaq kia naa, usi din bhool gaya hoga."

"Bola na Galti ho gayi." he spoke in a angry tone. "Aur waise bhi, chod kar tu mujhe gayi thi, Meri zindagi ke 4 saal tuney barbaad kar diye, akelapan likh dia."

He held the bedsheet and threw it away.

"Tu bhagodi hai Raavi. Tu toh chali gayi lekin ek baar bhi mere baare main nahi socha. ho sakta hai naa ki mujhe apni galti ka ehsaas ho gaya ho? Tune yeh nhi nahi socha ki sayad mujhe teri aadat ho gayi ho. Tu itni patthar dil kaise ho gayi?"

Shiva gripped her shoulders and Raavi felt a sting of pain.

"Abhi thodi der pehle kaha na that you have always loved me? Phir aise kyun chali gayi jaise kabhi pyaar tha hi nahi?" He yelled in anger. "Todd ke rakh dia tuney mujhe!"

"Tu akela nahi toota, Shiva!" Raavi yelled back as she pushed him with all her force. "Kisi aur ka bhi dil toota, bhafrosa toota, socha hai yeh kabhi? Tujhe apni galti ka ehsaas ho gaya na? Fine, mujhe b ho gaya, Mujhe nahi jana chahiye tha family ko chod ke. Main bhagodi hoon. Bas? Thik hai ab?"

She calms down a bit and he looks on at her.

"Kuch chiizen hamesha k liye bikharr jaati hain, Shiva. Jaise ki yeh." She threw a vase and broke the mirror. "Aur mera dil."

She left wiping her tears. Shiva was taken aback by her sudden outburst. He knew she loved him but he also knew that he had to make more effort to win her back. And he was ready to do anything for her.
