But you can surely send them a private text? I've seen people wish colleagues, friends, family members. On Mother's Day everyone puts up pics of their mothers wishing them and writing tributes, I'm sure you can then say why don't they just pick up the phone and call their mothers? It's what social media is. It's a sharing of pics and one's life. Whether you like it or not it's a different matter, but Kareena's far from being the only one that does it.

I didn't say they are the same; but they are different forms of socializing. They are called social networks for a reason! lol

One could call someone attention-seeking for throwing parties also.

On social media, people share glimpses of their life, especially the happy moments like birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, etc. There is nothing wrong in letting your followers know who or what you love and how much you love them.

Anyway, I actually disagree with the negative connotation attached to attention-seeking. Everyone seeks attention and validation to a degree, because by default human beings are social animals who crave for attention from other humans. Most things we do online, we do it out of the need to attract attention to ourselves. Posting a picture of a place you visited? Must be for attention. Posting your selfie? Must be for attention. Posting a quote you believe in? Must be for attention. And that is okay.

Seeking attention and validation in this manner is not healthy or natural imo.

Obviously we can have different viewpoints though, so if you think it is ok to seek publicity like this, that is fine.

Why is it not healthy?

I have done it for my own parents, siblings, and friends.

I look back at some of these posts from years ago, and it shows me how much I have grown, how much the relationships have become stronger (or weaker).

It is like a personal diary, but one that is an open book.

You wish people in person too. They are not mutually exclusive. You can do both. While memories disappear, the posts and the pictures do not. And it is always good to re-visit later in the future.

Obviously I, as a pleb, do not need publicity, while I do like attention to a certain degree.

But please tell me how it's unhealthy?

I've also posted on my FB on my husband's bday. A sweet small wish. I did it for my mom and dad as well. I guess I'm also attention seeking. 😂

How can being so insecure that you desperately seek affirmation and approval from others be healthy?

It is pretty silly imo.

How did you assume people are looking for approvals?

When you share good news with people, do you do this with the expectation of their approval?

You do it because you consider them your well-wishers, and hope that they will be happy for you. That's how people are happy for each other and we are able to have a collective memories.

When there is any major event in your life, do you not share it with others? Are you doing it because you are seeking approval from them? Or is it a sign of desperation?

It isn't desperation. This is normal human being behaviour.

Throwing a party and posting on social media are vastly different things.

Wishing on FB or wherever is not 'socializing'.

If you have already wished someone in person, doing it on social media with declarations of love just comes across as attention seeking.

I think its more to do with making their spouse feel more important by posting on social media.

Like, someone putting status for their spouse, friend or parents is a way to make them feel special. Many people like it. Putting status for spouse or social media on b'days, anniversary is a trend now.
