Kaise Mujhe
Vansh gently twisted the door knob open. With quiet steps, he stepped into the room only to find it lightened by dim lights and the bed empty.
She must be in the washroom
Thought he.
Closing the door, he stood near the table, unbuttoning his suit open. A sigh escaped his lips as the chilly air hit his body.
It was a long day. He had 3 meetings scheduled back to back till almost midnight.
Vansh folded the sleeves of his white shirt, and checked his pockets for his wallet and phone, when suddenly an arm wrapped around his torso.
“Happy Birthday..” a soothing voice wished, near his ear.
“Riddhima..”
Vansh whispered, turning around, only to find his wife holding a cake. He watched in awe, as the candle light fell on her face in the darkness. Her honeycomb eyes spoke so much.
“Come on, make a wish!”
She said avidly.
Vansh's eyes burned in tears. Keeping his palms on both of her hands that held the cake, he closed his eyes.
Silently praying to the Almighty to keep his love happy forever, Vansh blew the candle off.
He quietly watched, as Riddhima kept the cake on the table, cut a piece and fed him.
A tear escaped his eye and got lost in the darkness when the delicious flavor of the chocolate cake hit his tongue.
The sweetness of a cake was never in his fate on his birthdays.
Until she came..
“I have something for you.”
He watched as Riddhima held his hand in hers, and led them to the pool area.
Of course it was dark. But the moonlight embraced the darkness; just like she did in his life.
A strong wave of thousands of emotions washed through him, seeing a guitar kept in front of him.
“Siya told me that you loved playing it. Things, had stopped you.” Riddhima smiled, and looked deep into his eyes. “I want that you play this again.” She paused. “Please?”
“Gladly.” Vansh answered.
Sitting on the edge of the pool, he took the instrument on his lap.
Vansh inhaled deeply, preparing his fingers to play a guitar, that were now used to papers, keyboards and guns.
Kaise mujhe tum mil gayi, kismat pe aaye naa yakeen
Utar aayi jheel mein, jaise chaand utarta hai.
He looked down at the pool, only to see the angelic reflection of Riddhima, in a beautiful white saree. Vansh closed his eyes, continuing-
Kabhi haule haule dheere se
Gunguni dhoop ki tarah se tarannum mein tum
Chhooke mujhe guzri ho yoon.
Dekhoon tumhe, ya main sunoon?
Tum ho sukoon, Tum ho junoon
Kyun pehle na Aayi tum?
His fingers worked with the strings of the guitar, producing a calming music, unaware of how Riddhima's eyes pooled with tears.
Main to ye sochta tha ke aaj kal
upar wale ko fursat nahi,
Phir bhi tumhe banake woh,
Meri nazar mein chadh gaya
Rutbe mein woh aur badh gaya..
He sang, as a smile crept on his lips.
He truly had started believing in God.
Zindagi sitar ho gayi,
Rimjhim Malhaar hogayi,
Mujhe aata nahi kismat pe apni yakeen,
Kaise mujhko mili tum-
He couldn't finish, as she almost jumped on, hugging him.
Vansh smiled.
Keeping the guitar aside, he brought her close, grazing her hair. The aanchal of her saree fell on his arms, covering him from the cold.
Vansh broke the hug and looked at the face that was glowing with the moonlight falling from the open sky above them.
He cupped her face, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
His birthday was never so special..
Vansh hugged her close again, that was filled with nothing, but unconditional love and promises.
