No, but they do hold titles and unofficially are expected to do things and behave like ‘royals’ do.

They are not royals though.. they are just warrior class noblemen. One of my cousin is actually married to one, the only difference is it’s the girl who has has take up a Hindu last name after marriage 😆

Naming after prophets is not problematic at all, it’s very common.

Jehangir wouldn’t have been problematic either had they not named their first born Taimur.

Now it looks bad and plain offensive because it shows the first name was deliberate too. Taimur , who plundered and killed thousands of Indians; the city of Delhi reeked of blood and death for over a year in the aftermath. It’s so offensive. It’s like naming your kid Osama bin Ladin in USA or Adolf Hitler in Israel

I feel bad for the kid, he might be teased by everyone in school. Unless ofcourse the parents demand that the teachers also address him as "Jeh" during roll call and all that😆

I am a North Indian living in South India for a decade now.I know people here naming their kids Rajesh Khanna and Hrithik Roshan. Initially it shocked me no end but later I kind of got used to it even though I dislike the idea of naming your kids after actors. I mean just Rajesh or Hrithik would be fine but full name???😲

However, over the years I have come to find it endearing and it tells me about the innocence of people here so it’s all good.😊

On Topic: I mean if they like the name for their kid why not? And about the ridicule…it’ll subside in sometime just like with Taimur.

Though, I agree, modern families should be more open minded and inclusive in naming their children. Here it seems Saif’s is the dominating side.

Ashok is a name that people use.. and Asoka is not used at all.. and it was BC. Wars and deaths happened even before Muslim invasions but how after Ghori attacked and pillaged india was a different level.. The name Taimur has a different connotation in India

The foreign invasions that plundered India are burned in the psyche of Indians very differently. It was not too long ago.

Personally, Taimur is a very problematic name especially when now it looks so deliberate.
