I think the CVs are getting trapped between their own story and the OG track... especially with ShiVi since they showed significant differences in Shiva and Raavi's early relationship. In the beginning, up until the haveli episodes, I always thought Shiva and Raavi shared an unspoken, strong relationship. Where they were able to understand each other's pain (i.e., Shiva staring at the noose, knowing to step away and let Raavi be comforted by Maami, Shiva threatening the people who hurt her, Raavi and the chole incident, her visceral shiver when Dhara beat Shiva with a danda). This element never really existed in the original.
They also never showed an adequate apology between Raavi and Dev. Maybe it's as Esha said... they probably are non-confrontational people who'd rather forgive than ruminate about the "What could've been" or hold grudges. What the CVs didn't realize is that removing the apology scene has lowered both Raavi and Dev's characters. This apology was the moment for Dev to be remorseful, it was supposed to be the moment where the audience simmered down and felt his pain for marrying a girl he didn't love. Meanwhile, it was a chance for the audience to get to know Raavi better. She doesn't have to hold a deep rooted grudge on Dev. Saying something as simple as, "I'll accept your apology, but I don't think I'll ever be able to truly forgive you for letting me find out, in front of the whole town..."
Instead of having the misunderstanding right now, I wish they delayed it a couple of months. I'd much rather see Shiva and Raavi talk about their expectations for the marriage. The old Shiva might've been disappointed that Raavi doesn't seek a loving, happy marriage, but I think he would understand. Raavi, meanwhile, could learn about Shiva's own dreams of the future. They could've transitioned from childhood enemies to friends, with a few moments showing how they could be more, and once Shiva fell in love, truly and unequivocally, he could've read the diary, heard the comments from Sneha, etc. and this could've been his breakdown where he thinks all his time with Raavi was wasteful. The time together, would've made Raavi understand Shiva better as well. So instead of her blank stares, we would've gotten something more meaningful. We could've gotten both of them to reminiscence on their happy moments... right now we have nothing to work off of. They haven't had a proper conversation in the 4+ months they've married as ML said!
I couldn’t have said it bettter Avi! I think the fact that we never got an apology nor a conversation between Dev and Raavi was the beginning of my journey in terms of being disappointed with the story. I was super excited post the wedding because of the immense potential. But I was really taken back by the lack of apology. Maybe that’s why till today, I try to understand why we didn’t get that scene. Try to find a reason to explain it so that I can move on from it.
And the biggest disappointment for me is how they handled the childhood angle. This was their trump card in this version and they completely ruined it. Recently, I can’t even tell those two know each other since their childhood. It really makes me sad because that is what really hooked me to their story. There is so much I wanted based off of their rich history. It’s such a shame that they literally shoved their history under the rug and rendered it meaningless.
I think your first line makes so much sense. They are stuck between the ShiVi in this version vs the OG. Made me wish we never compared it to the OG. This one had such a unique take on their relationship. There were endless possibilities in terms of how ShiVi’s story could have unfolded on screen. I would much rather have watched conversations over any cliched romantic scene.
