Movies used to be real entertainment back then
Yes! Ultimate entertainment. I remember laughing so hard whenever he was on screen.
And same in the movie Khiladi and many others ( i remember Judaai and more recently in Hera Pheri and Golmaal 3)
He’s one of the few who did clean comedy too.
His eyes!!! He emotes using them and it's impossible not to laugh...
I didn't find it funny really. I thinks it's just me

His expressions are hilarious. Some of it made me laugh but calling someone fat to be funny or for whatever reason is a little .....😕
Although I enjoyed Johnny Lever's comedy and miss it a lot; I feel he was wasted. The whole practice of adding a character that had nothing to do with the plot simply for comic relief was a shoddy cinematic practice. Irrespective of the genre - whether it was drama, action, or romance - comic scenes would be forced in. Talented comedians like Johnny Lever would better be served in out-and-out comedies.
Baazigar was meant to be a thriller. There was no need for a Babulal character. The movie could have been so much more intense and engaging if they focused on the thriller elements and ignored the noise.
On the other hand, Johnny Lever would do well in a movie like Hera Pheri. Hera or Andaz Apna Apna where the entire story and narrative is built around quirky characters with comedy at the core. Bollywood still has a long way to go in terms of good comedy. The landscape for comedy has been repetitive ensemble movies with shoddy regressive jokes. Its a pity - there's so much comic talent available but wasted.
He and SRK made a great pair in the 90s. Wonder why they both didn’t work together after the 90s.
This guy is a LEGEND
I disagree, comedic elements were added to a movie to break the intensity of it. This was modeled after Shakespear plays where there would be one or two comedians who would add light elements to the play. This comedic elements were what resonated with the children and other people who needed a break. We have to remember that movies were longer than 3 hours at that time, people are not going to watch SRK changing contacts and throwing people off the buildings for that long. However, now with the 2 hour movies, it makes sense to go straight to the topic and eliminate those things. I still think a good comedic element in an otherwise engaging and intense thrilller can work well, Haider was a good example of that. The two guys who imitated Salman Khan worked well in the movie.
