To me, As to the hands that dont hug, it happened the first time he wakes up in the hospital where he collapsed; he hugs P which isnt reciprocated, as we hear the doctor say, she is no more. Reason for the no-hug. And this is the memory that is haunting him repeatedly, along with some wonderful memories he gets. First time when the hug is reciprocated and he starts to feel that he is mending, it is S.

And yes, S is indeed P. He left right after the doctors mention that she is no more. They are calling him to discuss more, he doesnt stop. There is a story after, which is held back.

wanna avoided getting in between theories as i shouldn't meddle. But the line was what is mentioned below.
