Popular casting + songs + some iconic (meme-able) dialogs
(In no particular order)
- The sheer scale of this movie, with how 'grand' everything is, including the unprecedented star-studded cast... all of it has a feeling of 'you'll never see anything like this again' -- and we probably won't.
- The soundtrack remains fun even after all this time
- For NRIs in the US/UK, this remains the Bollywood film everyone knows; it really speaks so much to issues we faced around this time.
- The movie remains a good 'time capsule' to this particular moment. India was opening up to the world, and people aspired to see the West, even though it remained not particularly accessible to average Indians. The London montage featured with Hrithik's arrival really underscores this, as so many movies around this time featured 'exotic' Western locations, bringing them to TV screens at a time when few people had Google in their living rooms.
- Yes, Poo is one of the most recognizable characters and has endured through internet memes.
@TM
1. It has Superstars from 3 different generations: 80s n Mid 90s Amitabh Bacchan. 90s Loverboy SRK and 2000's Latest Blue eyed boy : Hrithik Roshan.
The sheer fan following of these 3 was enough to make it a huge success. Add grandeur of sets & songs n u have mega hit.
2. Faceoff between HR and SRK. Back then both were compared often in terms of stardom
3 Kareena's Poo who became an iconic character in bollywood. Who was HOT as HELL and Funny & stupid at a same time
4.. SRK- Kajol pairing. : Need i say more?
K3G is peak Bollywood man. So much fun! To this day I can watch this movie again and still enjoy the cast, music, and overall package.
Garbage. Till this day I haven't been able to get through this awful cringe fest. Especially Kareena's cringeworthy acting even though it's a small role, it really tests my patience when she appears on screen. I was quite young when it released, and remember recognising awful acting even at that age. That's how bad she was!
Rest of the movie isn't even unintentional melodramatic laugh out loud entertainment like some other Kjo films. Its just plain boring and poorly executed.
K3G is everything normal real life isn't and people loves fantasy.
Although Rahul Raichand is my all time loveđ. Hayye I'll steal him if I ever find someone like him
blockbuster songs
blockbuster cast
a good story line, nice balance of comedy and emotional element
sure, it may not have aged the best, but what's not to like?
When I first watched K3G, it was fun. It was a mediocre film but the songs and scenes like "ghamla nahin vase" stood out as entertaining. Now that I look back it's absolute trash. The story had a lot more potential. If it wanted it could have tackled the patriarchy and superiority complex of India's wealthy elite. But instead, it sweeps it under the rug and pretends it's all hunky-dory in the end because - you know family. Yashvwardhan Raichand gets away without any real apology or meaningful change.
One of the reasons, it was a hit is because NRIs lapped it up and still do. I was a very recent immigrant when it came out. And part of what drew me to it was the Indianness of it all. When you're away from home even trash from home seems beautiful. Also for a lot of smug wealthy NRIs it was reassurance that their superiority complex is not really problematic as long as you know family.
But man, you gotta admit K3G was ahead of its times. The whole royal drama with Harry and Megan is K3G with a twist.
Nice songs and family concept
