Nope! I did not like the episode.

Shiva was wrong to objectify Raavi like that.

No woman deserves this.

I voted on the second option, “Though painful, loved it for story progression and prospect of character.” And here are my thoughts (I feel like at a certain point I will be thoroughly hated for my views so bear with me) of the episode and of the ShiVi relationship as a whole. To prevent repetition of thoughts, as I believe people would have thoroughly discussed this in the EDTs (I wouldn’t know though since I haven’t followed any of the EDTs since EDT#26 in the least), I will only discuss the rights/wrongs of Shiva’s actions.

I personally (and this is the part where you guys will hate me/throw tomatoes at me so be prepared!) enjoyed the scene where Shiva gambled Raavi for the kangans. I thought the scene was beautifully portrayed, and after the intense battle between Shiva and Prafulla, I thought such a demand was needed in order for character growth to happen in Shiva, Raavi, and the supporting cast.

Up until then, no one asked/cared to inquire why the kangans were so important to Shiva. Every time they saw Shiva and Prafulla fighting, they would only break up the fight and scold Shiva for acting that way towards an elder. But that did nothing to help him. It only allowed him to foster his hate, repress his emotions as no one tried to understand him/find a workable solution for him. But more importantly, the family's inactivity was the breeding grounds for Shiva to expand his hatred to those that didn't deserve it: Raavi.

Had someone sat down with him earlier (and I mean much earlier) and asked, "What do those kangans mean to you?" or "How do you feel about your father's death/What can I do to help you feel better?" or even "Why do you feel irrational hatred towards Prafulla and her family?" I think Shiva would be a dramatically different person. He never would've gone down this self-destructive pathway of hatred towards Prafulla and her family. He would've treated Raavi with respect, much before their wedding (and that might have caused Raavi to have a crush on him instead of Dev).

But no one took the time to understand him, and I am fairly certain that those kangans means more than just the emotional connection they represent. I feel that by getting those kangans back, Shiva can finally come to terms with his father's passing. Prafulla wearing those kangans were a constant reminder of how weak he was at the time of his father's passing. Gaumbi was probably old enough, but as a kid, Shiva was powerless in that he could do nothing to prevent his father's passing. He couldn't raise money. He couldn't support his father at the store. Though, once he holds the kangans in his hands, he can reassure himself that he is strong enough to prevent his family from ever going through a similar disaster (which maybe the CVs will tie with the land issue).

Now, coming to whether putting Raavi on the line was justified or not. I personally don't think it was right; however, Prafulla's taunts (spoken twice by the time he reacted) "Only Raavi will be able to go to your house, not these kangans" were fresh on his mind when he made the ultimatum. Shiva said those words in anger, and perhaps anguish as he knew he was fighting a losing battle. To him, using Raavi was his only hope of ever getting those kangans back. If the makers put this scene later in the story (once ShiVi truly fall in love), I would've punched them as that is not what a man who loves his wife would do. But they put the scene now, where thankfully he doesn't love Raavi as much as he loves the idea of getting those kangans back.

But what made me happy when I heard him make the ultimatum is that he verbalized his thoughts for once. Shiva, so far, has been a mastermind of holding his thoughts, and the fact that he poured everything on the table made me happy (though sad that Raavi had to bear the brunt of the fight between Prafulla and Shiva). Now everyone knows why the kangans are important.

Plus, it would've been worse if he hadn't verbalized such an ultimatum. Imagine Raavi trying to get close to Shiva, but cannot, because the thorn (kangans) are preventing him from truly trusting and acknowledging her as a woman/person. Now that Raavi has heard this, despite how painful it may be, she can only grow stronger. I also enjoyed how Raavi gave it back to Shiva in today's episode. She sometimes has difficulties fighting against other Pandya family members, but when it comes to Shiva, she gives it straight to him without any inhibitions. She's the only one who could crack his thick skull, and today's episode defines how their relationship will move in the future (where even if Shiva bursts with anger, it'll be Raavi, and only Raavi, who can be the voice of reason for him).

@ML, since you brought in Mahabharat, here is a tidbit of the conversation I had with my mother a year ago when discussing Yudhistir and Draupadi. He had no right to put his wife on the line. But that one decision opened his (and his brother's eyes). After Draupadi was insulted, the brothers agreed to fight. And I think it will be similar here. Shiva's decision of being willing to abandon Raavi for those kangans will be the "eye-opener" for him to realize that Raavi doesn't deserve this unwarranted hatred. It'll also, hopefully, be the "eye-opener" for the other brothers to realize that Prafulla will never change, and hopefully it will be the "eye-opener" for Raavi to realize that Prafulla is not perfect (of course after Shiva apologizes and she has the time to reflect on this event).

For those who read this long novel, thank you! Since this birthday of Raavi's seems like a dud this year, I hope next year she will be able to celebrate it with style and happiness. Imagine if for her next birthday, another kangan drama will come. But this kangan drama is Shiva deciding which kangans he should buy for her.

Here, Shiva's not acting entitled. He's rightfully asking Mami to return what's theirs from the start (again Raavi part is not justifiable, but think he will realize his crime of that comparison. So will hold my judgement for now). If she cals the police and it goes to court, it may rule in the family's favor as she stole it with deception.

And Suman's dialogue to Mami doesn't really apply to them- at least the way I see it. You're right for us, including Suman, it's a commodity. For Mami it's her zidd to satisfy her ego, bit for Shiva it's his dad's last loving gift for his mom. I have recently lost 4 loved ones this year, and I know how particular I am about things related to them. I can't even touch their clothes yet to clean things out. So for someone to steal something as precious, flaunt it front of you as a trophy, insult you, and to provoke and challenge you for it would take I e heck of an emotional toll.

Nahi yaar. Mami didn't "steal" it per se. She borrowed it from Suman and never returned it. Or suman gave it to her brother and it was never returned.. Yes she flaunts it ..mami doesn't need a character certificate. We all know her true self. It's basic courtesy to return stuff but if someone doesn't do it, they can't be forced. N that thing can't be claimed also. I wish they devised a better way to get kangan bk , and it was kept separate from raavi

I am not denying the emotional attachment with things but this was totally a different matter in which raavi should not be traded...whatever Suman was telling prafulla holds true for her but in her defense, she said yest that her real gold is her sons and family..

Yes its not dowry technically but the talks were disturbing. Damaad ko sona gift karna hota hai.pagphera pe and all that..prafulla is kanjoos , she won't give anything to her daughters. Upar se justification of it all...Shiva ki teesri aankh khol di usko challenge karke 🤢 Although the family is saying Shiva is wrong , they are also justifying him and also trying to brush things under the carpet (as seen in the precap).

Like I said , raavis self respect won't come bk even if shiva manages to get the kangans. But again

.everything will be forgotten in a yadon ki barat moment...when raavi forgot her marriage in a millisecond, she will forget the kangan moment also.this is the reason I am getting detached from this show 😵

Very well said! Agreed. This was meant to happen. Kangan was going to be a wedge in their relationship at some point. And there couldn't be a better time. He has started to care for her and feels attracted to her, but is not at a love stage. Would have been much worse had been been later. To love someone without trust and respect is much worse imo.

Agree with you again in Mahabharat analogy. And it's okay for him to be wrong, so long as you rightly out"opens everyone's eyes". If I try to justify for those who hated it, I think their concern is that unlike Mahabharat, this situation would be swept under the rug as the makers have done it in the past and makers would go back YKB in her birthday. However, today's episode and precap gives us hope that there will be repentance. Raavi expressed her stance, family stood by her, and it was family who gave her birthday surprise. Shiva wasn't present. Aka the matter is still ongoing and Raavi didn't forgive him. Hope she makes him earn for it and make him realize the importance of respecting woman especially his wife. Hope Shiva understands the impact of his blunder his blunder and does everything he can to make her feel respectedaas his wife and in the process earn her respect. Just hope makers don't mess it up!

Lol, I hope they show next birthday. ITV has selective amnesia when it comes to it.

P.s. There's poll for today's episode too, if you'd like to vote.
