"kuch dhund rhe ho?"he heard her enter their room, tired and her hands already behind her neck, she wasn't very habitual of wearing jewelery but living in Rao mansion, being a jeweler merchants wife she has worn more in this one month than her whole life. She just came back from the first function she attended with Amma as Mrs. Raghav Rao, and though it wasn't very exciting, it wasn't bad either.
"Tumse matlab" he had rudely dismissed her concern
"Veda manus, seedhe muh jawab dega to iska joota ghis jaega" she mumbled making her way to the dressing table.
"Suna mene" he loudly announced
"Exactly my purpose" she chuckled
"Nhi tum wese bhi bad bad krti rehti ho sote jagte"
"Excuse me? Mai? At least I don't snore like you" She scoffed, offended at his allegations.
"Me? And snoring? Hello madam, tumko bhot bada galatfehmi hai" he came towards her leaving behind whatever he was looking for
"Agli bar se record krke sunaungi" she rolled her eyes
"Mai jab ata hai tum ghode bech k so raha hota hai, tumko kese malum mai kharate marta hai karke.. kahani banane m maahir" he said turning her chair to face her
"Bolo ab" he wiggled his brows in questioning
"Mai soti hu par meri Beauty sleep k dushman ho na tum or tumhare kharrate" she made a face pushing him aside and turning back to look into the mirror
"Kya hai" she said eyeing him through the mirror, he was staring at her
"Tum bhot gussa dilata hai mereko Pallavi, mereko cheda nahi kro" he said glaring her
"Aww mai to dar gai" she giggled, removing her bangles
"Mera bhot important meeting hai abhi nahi to batata tumko.." he pointed her fingers at her
"Han theek hai.." she scoffed closing the drawer and turned to look at him.
"Jao ab.. important meeting the na tumhari"
"Han par" he twitched his face, back to looking around for something.
"Koi file dhund rhe ho? Wo to study m hogi na" she said following him around the room
"Nahi" he answered rudely
"To bolo to kya pata mene rakha ho" she pouted, guilty of often misplacing his stuff.
"I will check the washroom" he said with sudden realisation. After a few minutes, he came back, not satisfied.
"I don't know where I kept it" he gritted his teeth, clearly displeased.
"What are you looking for?" She asked, a bit louder this time
"I don't need your help" he exasperated
"Fine" she gave up, making the bed, it was too late and she was too tired to fight with him. She heard him throwing curses over the phone and warning someone to find it asap followed by his retreating footsteps. She walked upto the window and looked down, and finally when her husband's car left the premises she decided to sleep.
The following morning :
"Farhad, Anna kab tak ayenge" Keerti asked sipping her morning tea, Pallavi wanted to know too, so she moved towards the dining table to have a better look.
"Aj he ayenge, sham tak" he said scrolling through his phone
"Vadina.." Farhad casually called her, she looked up and smiled at him
"Wo actually, I might not be here when he comes back and I can't risk delaying it" he smiled slipping his hands in his pocket.
"Delaying what?" She asked confused
"This" he said extending her palm towards her "I don't want to face his wrath, he dropped it in the showroom, thank god we found it" he shook his head and sighed.
*****************
"Pallavi" He entered, his eyes searching for her.
She looked up from the bed, he was sweating.
"First, why are you on my side of bed? Second I've heard Farhad.. Farhad gave you something that belongs to me" he reluctantly spoke
"you don't sound like the desperate kid who wants his toy back" she said completely ignoring the first question.
"That idiot" he cursed, taking long strides towards her
"Give it to me, it's mine" he ordered, keeping his palm in front of her face
"Is it?" She smirked, irking him more
"Ofcourse and very costly it is" He rolled his eyes to ignore the fleeting feeling
"But.. I have to be more sure" she shrugged her shoulder and kept her feet down on the floor, opening the drawer to pick up a small box
"Pallavi" he frowned, extending his hands to snatch it
"No no no, what if it's mine and you stole it" she quickly moved away with the box, making him sigh deep.
"What is this Pallavi? That's my wedding ring, you hve yours on your finger " He chuckled, nervously
"Okay..if Raghav Rao says so, but, when i look closely...." She said opening the box and taking out the ring from it.. "it has my name engraved on it" she smirks, leaning back on the wooden table, constricting her eyes to have a better look of his pale face.
