Actually...yes.

What I mean is its not the cost of the gift. I want it to be genuine. No one can buy my affection. If the guy wants to shower me with expensive stuff as well okay fine. But I should be capable of buying him such things too. But firstly he should love me before anything. You'll know what I mean, since u are aware of my past experiences.

Everything has become sexualized....innocent, pure, sweet romance is dead in films today. It sucks, because I LOVE those kinda films!

Off the top of my head, the last major romantic blockbuster that had that innocence and sweetness may have been RNBDJ back in 2008.

I think Aashiqui 2 also captured the essence of innocent, sweet, first love. Though it wasn't a major Blockbuster, still a Blockbuster nonetheless.

YJHD was a big Blockbuster, and it also had that feel of old school romance, but it was also a bit modern and in line with the sentiments of current generation.

I don't know what kind of raunchy sex filled bollywood movies everyone else here have been watching. I know blue ice keeps referring to Bombay begums but what about everyone else? What lust filled movies have you been watching lately?

Premarital sex was still a taboo few decades ago so I assume most people in real life didn't do these things. Now premarital is a lot more common. Movies reflect that. Just because on screen couple had sex like a normal couple in real life doesn't mean the movie is about lust.

All my life I thought bollywood is such a terrible example of love. Love at first sight that happened in most bollywood movies is all about lust. So really funny to hear today's romance movies are about lust and not those ones where guy goes goo goo gaga over a woman and decides she is the one after seeing her for the first time

@bold, that was really some bullshit Bollywood sold those days.😆 It looks so stupid when you watch that now. I at least have the excuse of being a child when those movies released back then.😆

But what were the adults thinking?😆Its normal to have a crush at first sight, but the hero acting like the heroine is her soulmate just by looking at her for the first time?😆

How the audience didn't cringe back then?😆

Sometimes I feel sorry for our generation ie 90s kids

We grew up on soppy romantic cheese ...that’s what we like and want

But then when we were impressionable teens we were told “ewww cheese is so uncool watch this anurag kashyap movie” and we were like umm ok I guess cheese is kind of bad

And now we are grown up and self aware and are like “gimme some cheese” and no ones dishing it out 😒

Yes you're right! Aashiqui 2 also had simple, sweet romance. Although we should add, it did have some of the dark elements that have become quite popular in modern cinema, with ARK playing an alcoholic and his struggles with that. On the other hand, when Mohit Suri directed a more innocent love story (Humari Adhuri Kahani), the film bombed at the box office, even though I loved the film!

And yes agreed on YJHD. It was indeed a mix of old-school and modern romance. I didn't include it because I remember a lot of vulgar dialogues in the film and kissing scenes (Ranbir with Deepika and with the white woman in the Ilahi song).

No.

In my opinion, love is becoming more nuanced and realistic. Bollywood movies portrayed an unrealistic and idealistic portrayal of romance. They mass-produced love stories and stuffed romances even in stories where it was unnecessary.

For a large number of people love is just one aspect of their life. There are much greater things in their story. Modern Bollywood movies tell those stories without letting romance overshadow the narrative. Love is rarely over the top and dramatic. Most movies show love in different ways. Finally, the newer generation of Indians is more open to sex than in the past. They do expect their romances to be physical. Movies reflect that.

Gully Boy had a love story but the rapping took precedence and they were young modern Indians whose notion of love is fickle and physical. Photograph and Sir have love stories, but very subtle, subdued, reflecting how big barriers can be. No LaLa fantasy that two people can fall in love sing songs, make lofty dialogues, and have everything fall in place.
