Like you mentioned I come from the same show where I believed thats romance and I was also a teenager then... But now I strictly deny FL should manhandled in the name of love..

Nah, but this is not bashing. I do not believe in that concept. For me, this post and the discussions is all about constructive criticism.

May you find the real entertainment be it thru' this show or another, like I found mine.

Yeah true.. This is certainly not bashing. I just said it in humour. I am watching this show almost after 8 years after the other show.. I will get back to my other form of entertainment, when I decide to go. ITV is not for that.. Most of the MLs turn disappointing and FL mahaan.. Both..kind of turns me off. Here for now I am staying here for the FL, I know that would be just for a while.. She is on her way to become mahaan.

the entire show is regressive with virat being the most toxic of them all. I just hate him and I quit watching the show the episode when he denied sai food and claimed it is his money or whatever.

The audacity of the makers to actually promote it as some sort of spin off of diya aur bati hum is unbelievable...despite it being touted as saas bahu show, Diya aur baati hum is one of the progressive serials star plus ever had and sooraj has to be one of the best MLs.

But I beg to differ with the latter part of your reply. Trp aunties only care about how much of an eye candy the ML is, the chemistry and the drama quotient. The FL they want is one who'll always go back to the ML no matter what crap she gets in return from him or his family. They find some sort of sadistic pleasure in seeing the FL getting tortured and this is what this show depicts every other day and that's what brings in the TRPs. Its a tried and tested formula.

Sai is gutsy, righteous and very brave, but does it not defeat the purpose of her characterisation when she'll come back to Virat, just because he'll be hurt. Does her love for Virat then not make her weak, when love is all about strengthening each other. Does coming back heal the verbal, emotional and all kind of abuse she faced. Is Virat's toxic love worth it, after all.

Like I said in my post, had it been about Sai finding a way out of that marriage, I would have been cheering for the show. However, its not, its about a fierce woman aspiring to be a Dr., but also a woman who'll accept the toxicity of her in-laws and husband just because she is in love. She'll be his rehabilitation centre if ever Virat decide to redeem himself. And for me, this is where the writers fail Sai big times. For me the show ended with Virat fighting the family for her admission.

@underlined : that is because this strong gutsy girl is also compassionate & love is an all-conquering emotion. Kya karen, she has fallen for a jerk. But I am hoping the Sai that comes back for love will retain her original personality & ways. The only change I want is her thinking a little more before rushing into things.

Interestingly even in DBH they showed the FL helping the ML gain success & fame thru the masterchef type competition, before they showed the FL finding success for herself. A man content to remain a halwai but helping his wife become successful, wld not have gone down well. Progressive means a career wife, but only when the hubby is successful in his own right. And the wife still finding time to solve household family matters all the time. There is hidden patriarchy everywhere.

That is the very instance I left the show, even if I lost interest after the Alta sequence.

For makers, progressive serials = an educated FL who will rebel, fight for what's right, and yet cave in for love. Because hey, the career/dreams are important, but so are caving in for love, take the trash from your beloved husband and his family and be his and his family's rehab.

Nah, does not work for me!

Sai may and should continue to maintain her inherent nature, but will Virat ever change?

I just don't get it..I mean this concept of love, like pyaar aisi hi hota hai and all that crap. Maybe I am too practical but I just can't fathom someone willingly returning to a place like Chavan's and to a husband like virat after all the emotional abuse because it is pyaaaar ishq Mohabbat

I literally couldn't bear the day to day drama and abuse in each episodes and then next day the FL is back to ML eating panipuri and laughing around forgetting every thing. šŸ˜• The normalization of Virat's behavior is what made me quit the show altogether.

Agreed, but you can't expect a pitch perfect ITV show but Diya aur baati is a very progressive show. if they just had to just show sandhya's journey the show would probably end in 200+ episodes. The way they weaved the story even around sooraj's masterchef competition was appreciable. And like I mentioned sooraj is one of the best MLs. The jodi didn't get the hype because they don't resonate with youth with all tashan and passion.
