The IPL has become the pinnacle of sport commercialization across the world! Based on the IPL model, many more sports leagues have sprung up in India and are doing reasonably well. The Indian Premier League has in no time acquired the status of the world’s biggest and the most passionately followed cricket tournament.

IPL has also given a lot of opportunities to youngsters to perform at the big stage and make a name for themselves in the international cricketing arena. Many cricketers have taken the big leap because of the league.

Here are a few inspiring tales of cricketers whose lives changed after IPL>>>>

Manzoor Dar

Here's an interesting story about a cricket player who had to go through many hardships before IPL changed his life.

The lone cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play in IPL 2018- Manzoor Dar worked as a laborer to supplement his family income. The right-handed batsman was looking for ways to make more money to take care of his four brothers and three sisters, all of them younger to him.

It was then that Manzoor was asked by a local coach to try and participate in club cricket as he spotted him hitting huge sixes. More matches meant more money and Manzoor would never say no, working in the night as a security guard and then with the rise of the sun go back to his team for the match.

After 9 T20 matches for the state team (in which he averages 30.83 with the bat) since January last year Dar was grabbed by the IPL franchise- Kings XI Punjab for 60 lakhs and although many turned millionaires over-night, Manzoor’s family might have been the happiest.

This one and a half months long tournament has become a landmark event in the calendar year for many who follow cricket across the globe. In every year, the IPL promises to be bigger, better and brighter and the lovers of the most lucrative cricketing league in the world want nothing more!

Here is another interesting story ----

The Billionaire industrialist's son who is featured in the IPL

Aryaman Birla played for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018

The Rajasthan Royals have made some big purchases in the IPL in every year. However, a young 20-year old Aryaman Birla stands out.

Aryaman is the son of Kumar Mangalam Birla- one of India's biggest industrialists. For Aryaman, whose father's net worth is approximated at 80,369 crores, the price tag is of secondary importance as he was picked by the Rajasthan Royals for 30 lakhs.

Playing alongside the greats of the game like Ajinkya Rahane and Ben Stokes is more important to the left-handed batsman. The southpaw who usually opens the innings has preferred his cricketing dream over helping his father's business pursuits at that time.

He made his debut for MP in the 2017/18 Ranji Trophy on 25 November 2017.In January 2018, he was bought by the Rajasthan Royals. In November 2018, he scored his maiden century in first-class cricket. In 2019, he took a sabbatical from cricket owing to mental health problems. He was coping with severe anxiety related to sport taken break from the active cricket and was released by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 IPL auction.

The greatest underdog story till date in the IPL remains that of Rajasthan Royals lifting the trophy in the inaugural season. Almost all teams had dynamic overseas players along with abundant homegrown talent. But if there was one team that lacked the big names and was almost ruled out of contention at the very beginning, that was Rajasthan Royals. But RR proved everyone wrong, as they got on a winning streak in the initial stages of the tournament itself, and then there was no turning back.

Under the astute captaincy of the legendary Shane Warne, despite not having Indian stars at that time, Rajasthan emerged victorious. While that season is remembered for Warne’s brilliance as a captain, the swashbuckling Yusuf Pathan and Shane Watson’s all-round excellence, what is not talked about enough is Rajasthan’s solid opening partnership, one half of which was the diminutive yet hard-hitting batsman from Goa, Swapnil Asnodkar.

After trying out a number of opening combinations, Graeme Smith and Asnodkar’s partnership at the top became a permanent feature of the Rajasthan line up. The duo scored 418 runs together at an average of 59.7, highest of the tournament. Asnodkar, who was relatively unknown till then, played free flowing cricket, surprising one and all scoring 311 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 133.47, which included a 60 of 34 balls on debut against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Smith and Asnodkar provided the perfect platform for the likes of Watson and Pathan. His performance made people take notice and was even praised by the captain Warne. However, how it happens for a number of players, Swapnil lost form and could never replicate his performance in IPL or domestic cricket and slowly faded away. Nevertheless, his brilliant performance in the inaugural season will always be part of the folklore of Rajasthan’s victory and he surely deserves more credit for being the perfect opener Rajasthan needed.

Cheers......

On that specific summer of 2008, when the Indian Premier League (IPL) was crafted and conceived, it was simply off the wall for most Indian fans! The idea of a cricket league that hosted close to a hundred T20 matches over two months, was privately owned by huge business conglomerates and film stars, and which blurred national loyalties, pitting teammates against each other in return for mammoth pay packets! Most cricketers from around the world also saw this as a lucrative opportunity to play some uncomplicated cricket and go home richer.⭐️

Cricket, especially Indian cricket, has never been the same since. The IPL has had an impact not just on how the game is looked at now, but also on the hundreds of cricketers whose lives it has transformed. Take Ashok Dinda, one of the many bowlers Kolkata Knight Riders called on for a net session. From the outset, Dinda made an impression with the pace and bounce he generated on the docile Eden Garden practice pitches. Ricky Ponting was quick to take note of his ability and asked John Buchanan to observe the rookie closely. Suddenly Dinda, who was yet to debut for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, had bagged a coveted IPL contract. He impressed everyone in the first edition and went on to play for Bengal and India in the following years. This is one story among many such interesting stories!

Here is another interesting story which brings titters while reading this incident!

The ‘Silent’ Pollard – IPL 2015

Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard are those two West Indies cricketers who are famous for their humorous nature. These two playing against each other is bound to give some memorable moments. In the 8th season of IPL Mumbai Indians player, Kieron Pollard initiated a talk with RCB blaster Chris Gayle. But Pollard was interrupted by the Umpire.

Following that, he was seen with tape on his mouth in the next over. It was one of the spontaneous and hilarious moments from Pollard on the field for the Chinnaswamy Stadium crowd in Bangalore.😃
