Was the love story in October relatable?

For me, the fact that the love story in October was not a typical one piqued my interest. These were two very different people who lived in their own worlds. There was no tangible reason for Dan to feel the way that he did. It was just his inherent sensitivity which triggered his love, if it can be called that. For him, it was just too big a deal that someone had asked for him before going into a deep sleep from which they may never wake up again. To say that Dan is a complex character to essay may very well be an understatement. I don't mean to say that Dan is not someone who you won't come across in your everyday life, that is highly likely. But still, just like the rest of us, there is a certain uniqueness about him. His set of values and emotions are starkly different from the ones around him.

.

Do you think such pure, selfless love can exist in real life?

I think finding such selfless love in today's time and especially with someone in the age group of Dan is almost impossible. But I feel it is something that people of all ages long for such a connection desperately and when it is portrayed on the screen so well, it is natural to connect with such a character

This was a clear case of connecting with a character who you wish to be like or want in your life, instead of relating to them because of similarities with your self.

From the very beginning the movies establishes that Dan is different from others and his priorities are very different from what a normal guy or girl would have in today's times. And that really helps in grounding his character and making him believable despite his odd actions. If they had suddenly made a normal character behave like how he did, then it wouldn't have made much sense

THIS.

I completely agree with everything you wrote, and the director did a marvellous job of portraying this character with his unusual belief system right from the start. It was like laying a foundation for the love story to develop organically. Dan was not cut from the usual cloth, and the director made sure to drive this point across in subtle ways.
