ohh!!!! Iâm Muslim and we get married by religion, itâs also accepted by law. A contract is signed. But thanks for explaining! đ
Muslim marriage contract (Nikaah naama) is a legally recognized document in India, just like Talaaq (divorce) agreement đ

But why are we even talking about marriage certificate because just not in itv but in india also people rarely registered their marriages so does it mean that anyone can go and ask any couple to prove they are married and some couples don't even have photographs of their marriages.so it's not uncommon in India of not having any proof of being married. But yeah the question you asked is valid and very much correct
If the couples fail to produce evidence of any form - witness(es), photos/videos, contracts = yes, their marriages can be annulled, if challenged.
There are always shortcuts to prove your marriage in one form or the other, for the older generation - like entering spouse's name in the govt recognized documents such as Ration Card -> which would mean the other person is your family member. Photos can backup your case as well, they need not be just wedding photos, where couple can be seen attending functions or family gatherings together can be presented as evidence for a good lawyer to contest the case.
