The controversy stems from the Maharashtra government’s push to ensure that auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers have working knowledge of Marathi. The move has reportedly led some drivers to avoid RTO checks at important locations, affecting the availability of public transport and causing inconvenience to commuters.

According to reports, Mumbai Rickshawmen’s Union leader Thampy Kurien said a section of drivers is considering approaching the Bombay High Court against the one-month show-cause notices issued to them. Their argument is that proper training facilities should have been made available before the language requirement was enforced.

Faye D’Souza recently highlighted the situation on social media, prompting Sonam’s “huh” reaction. The actress has not elaborated on what exactly prompted the response, leaving her followers to interpret the comment.
