Whiplash
It was hard to intimidate Anu, she had a MIL at home and aggressive coworkers at the office. Smrita appeared almost 20 minutes after the Mathurs were seated by Satyen
Bua and her kids were invited too
“Hum family hain Akashji we should hang out more often” Satyen stressed when Akash informed him that his sister’s family was on the way
The Dhamijas were already in the living room
A giant white canopy like tent covered half the front lawn, crew worked to set up the bonfire
Within 5 minutes of having sit down, Nupur Dhamija declared “how hard Smrita has worked to acquire “sustainable” material for the fire”
“Oh she was so very particular the audience was told
There were 3 other families, Grovers, Bakshis and Sunejas
“Viveka ready ho gayi?” Anu asked Satyen
“You should go check your self”
“Ma can I go too?” Diya and Karuna sprinted behind her
The girls were poised and well dressed
Naina was expected to show up with Bua & Co. so were Dadi and Dadu
Dadi had spent all day coaxing Anil Chachu and Garima to travel for Lohri
Satyen sent a help with Anu so she could find the room
After returning home last night, Raanav had told her they need to talk about how frequently she would go to Rohini
“You are insufferable” she told him
“Well then you wont mind me if I show up at 2 PM and wait over there” he told her pinning her to the wall
“Did you tell Papa “I am looking for my wife”
“Umm.. yeah?” he shrugged
She closed her eyes with her hand in embarrassment
“Viveka Mathur”
“Stop saying that” she whispered
He bend down on her neck…. “U chose not to change your name”
“Haan is liye nahi ki tum baar baar mujhe aise bulao”
“U are the dutiful daughter”
“Gee thanks”
“I might have to teach you to be a dutiful wife” he spoke fightin words
“Yeh baat hai? Jaise ki? Raat ko tumhare pair dabaoon?” she winked
He pulled her glasses off as she protested
In bed later…
“Why are you so jumpy when you see me?”
“I will let you know when I figure it out” she mumbled
“I like chatting with your Mum”
“Oh?” she opened her eyes to gaze into his
“Surprised?”
“I mean she is a knockout in the brains department and looks…” she sighed
“I might know one of her daughters who is like that” he gently stroked her cheek
His favorite thing to do she decided
“I know Diya is like HER”
“Playing the tease Mathur?” he not so gently eased himself back up on top of her again
He was possessive and demanding, and expected to see her every evening in his house she realized
Her heart thudded, as a gurgling foam of joy left her throat
Anu knocked on the door
There was as usual some argument happening inside
Raanav opened the door after 5 minutes
“Great to see you” he smiled genuinely
Diya gave him a hug
“You WORE INDIAN?” she gushed
“I am told somebody is sick of seeing me in work clothes”
Viveka appeared with her face flushed wearing her left earring
“Kya hua?”
“Kuch nahi Ma” she smiled
Diya ran off inside with Raanav to see his music production equipment as Anu sat in the visitor area of the suite
“Tayar nahi hui?”
“Nahi lad rahi thi” Viveka smiled
“VEEV” Anu scowled
“What? Chilll…. He has ego the size of Siberia” Viveka smiled whispering softly
“Aaj tyohar hai”
“I know… I am not letting it get out of the room”
“The house is SO beautiful
“You should tell his Mom, she might become your best friend” Veev laughed
Anu realized her daughters were genuine, matter of fact and honest like her husband
“Tum Papa ki tarah ho” Anu sighed with pride leaning back and explained how he would pay such a compliment to his adversary unpretentiously
“Mujhe to yeh bola gaya main aapki tarah hoon” Viveka leaned on her mother’s shoulder
“I hope I was as intelligent as you Beta”
“Phir aapko bhi nahi milti admission at IIT K
It broke Anu’s heart to pieces
“Kya socha hai?”
“Pata nahi, whenever we start to talk about it we fight, mujhme bhi hai ego” she sighed
“Not enough if you readily admit it” Anu laughed
“Raanav lawyer hai kaise jeet paati ho arguments” Anu smiled fondly
“Nahi jeet paati” Viveka blushed indicating how it usually ended
Anu gently squeezed her hand
“He pursued you and was direct never misled you I admire him”
“Aap dono ko ek society shuru kar deni chahiye”
“He was probably being polite” (If he was appreciating me!)
“He is like his Dad in many things” Viveka ack grudgingly
“Your MIL liked my saree” Anu said almost in a whisper
“I think she wants to wear the type of sarees you and I do but she is caught up in what she SHOULD wear” Viveka smiled sagely
She heard the twins chattering in the music room
“If they were not so weird about Inder, they seem like good people” Anu grimaced
“Papa is too” “Papa liked Abhishek but umm.. you know” “You know how that turned out?”
“Tum apni MIL ko support kar rahi ho?” Anu was amused
“No not really Ma” Viveka shook her head
As luck would have it when Naina arrived, Inder did too and they both walked in together
Anu and Viveka hung on to fenceposts not to long ago in Viveka’s room about giving people a chance and wishing for survival, but seeing the couple that started it all was like whiplash
